Pentium 100
no monitor
no graphics
no modem
just CPU, memory, hard drive.
At used computer store Approx. $50
NIC $5 (1 per computer)

for $2000 you can set up a nice 32 node supercomputer

hmmm... nobody's using the spare bedroom

A <A HREF="http://www.beowulf.org/gsfc-hw.html" target="_new">Beowulf Cluster </A> is a extremely cheap way of making
massively parallel supercomputers using arrays of PCs
NASA, DOE, and Caltech are just a few organizations
who have demonstrated 100+ node clusters using Pentium Pros
that push 10+ GFLOPs

like I said: find every Pentium box you can get your
hands on, network them together; instant supercomputer
plus one nasty electric bill ;)
