I was just refused for windows update..
How do I view/change my code back to my legal one???
I am trying to avoid activation...
I have had service pack 1 on my rig for at least 3 months???
Why the problem now with my serial?????
Is this the begining of the probing service pack 2 for XP??????
Thanks - Morgan

Why are you trying to avoid activation? It's pretty painless from what I've read. If Windows XP isn't activated after either 60 or 90 days, then that might happen. (I'm referring to you saying 3 months.)

If you want to avoid activation altogether, just stick with Windows 2000. I would do the same, but I'd like to be completely familiar with Windows XP since it's what I install for my customers. If you have a legal copy of Windows XP and you're running with it totally fine (except for this), why not just activate it the way you're supposed to?

(You don't have to answer that if there's a deeper reason that shouldn't be public... )
