'PATH' is missing from "Environmental Variables" in my cop..

Forum Windows XP : General Discussion 'PATH' is missing from "Environmental Variables" in my cop..

In my copy of XP, I've right clicked on "My Computer" and gone to System
Properties/Advanced/Environmental Variables and I find that the Variable
"PATH" is
missing from the list in the window. There is nothing between the variables
"OS" and "PATHEXT", which, I'm told is where the PATH should be.

I discovered this anomaly when I was unable to update a program because
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem was (also) missing. I was later told it was
necessary for the update.

Please understand that while the defect is as I've stated above, I'm not
especially computer savy and I don't really understand the significance of
this anomaly or what I should do about it.

All that being said, my XP seems to be functioning beautifully, as always,
with this apparant problem on arising only because of a (failed) attempt to
update some third party fax software.

I would appreciate any advice or help someone would care to offer.

Thanks in advance.

Don.

I've found out that this PATH variable should be there and to put it in by
carrying out the following procedure:

1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel, and double-click System.

2. Click the Advanced tab.

3. Click Environment Variables.

4. Click New, type PATH in the Variable Name box.

5. Type or copy/paste the following text in the Variable Value box:

%systemroot%\system32;%systemroot%;%systemroot%\system32\wbem

I did it and it works.

Thanks Don.
