This website is bobarding my computer with "pop-up ads" They're advertising their services as a pop-ad blocker. But I recieve their ad, wether I'm online or not (I have cable internet). AND, I recieved thier fricking ad every three minutes or so. Even when I'm gaming it'll interuppet my session and spit me back out to the desktop to display this ad. How do I get rid of it??? I have the free version of ZoneAlarm and it doesn't seem to even see it. I checked out the website and it looks like a 7 year old could have made it. Does anyone have any ideas?

It is probably a local appy going out onto the net and since the http request is originating from your machine it's unlikely your firewall is going to see it as anything other than an installed program.

First run a good virus scanner and be sure your system is clean.

If it persists... look in c:\winnt\downloaded program files It's likely you will find some kind of appy sitting in there causing it.

Put in a copy of Startup Control Panel (or use MSConfig if you have it) and look at your startup groups, there might be something installed there causing it.

Also look in your Task Manager/processes and see if there's something weird running in there too...

Finally... if you can find this guy's webspace provider send off a complaint that this idiot is distributing a virus!

If you want a good, small, easy to use pop up stopper, try this:
http://home.rochester.rr.com/artcfox/Pop-Down/index.html

Been using it for a while, seems pretty good.

In addition, it couldn't hurt to run a good spyware scanning program like Spybot or Adaware. Or both.

Afterwards, installing a popup ad blocker might be a good idea. There are many different versions of software like this on the Web, including some that are freeware. A quick search will bring up many options. Personally, I've been using Popup Ad Filter from Meaya Software for a couple of years, and version 1.2, build 420 works very well. If you decide to use this, be sure to contact the company's technical support for a link to the latest version.
