Hello

I have a friend who has a laptop that once the display went dark when he started the laptop.
It then worked fine.

Now couple of weeks later it is permanently dark.

Ive read that if you put a flash light to the screen and get a image then it is a "switch" that is broken and not the display itself.
I don't have access to the laptop right now but according the owner it gives a slight image when putting flashligt on it.

Now I wonder what I should get, a replacement display or a replacement switch?

If you get an image, with the flashlight method, it maybe the invertor or backlight, not just the switch. What type of backlight is used? It would also help if you identified the laptop and state how old it is.
