ATI just announced it will be expanding the 9200SE series worldwide. This is an already outdated 9200 chip card with only 64-bit memory pathways. Sort of like the old TNT2M64 and GeForce2 MX200. What do you want to bet...Dell promotes this card as their first step upgrade to onboard graphics, for "extreme gamers"?

I have a feeling it will be replacing the elderly Rage 128 Pro 4x as their budget card. What I can't understand is...doesn't it cost as much to produce as the standard 9200?

Give me a break, they charge less for lower performance, when the production cost is still the same? Isn't it about time the moved the standard 9200 down the ladder a notch, instead of making it even worse?

if they want to degrade the design of 9200SE by releasing new video card, they should also lower the price.

Right, but I'm saying that since the card cost about the same to produce as the standard 9200, and since the 9200 is already an elderly product, there's no need for them to release a "cheaper" version that cost as much to make, they could simply demote the standard version.

the 9000pro was bad enough (8500 with 1 pixel shader and half the TMU's)

sapphire was recently releasing some 9100s with 64 bit memory, without stating to the customer what they were getting. SHAME ATI. dont make me start to think of you as i htink of Nvidia! you did a great thing with th 8500le ,which raised the bar on affordable excellent graphics... you should keep that trend going!

Gee wait, guys, isn't this a good thing? This means we'll have a million more people come onto this board asking, "Should I get a 9200SE? The salesman said it rules, and it's only $35. Plus it's new." Damn it, this sucks.

These days, no matter what company you like, be it nVidia, ATi, or whatever, no matter how logical your reasons, you're labeled an idiot or a fanboy, or both.

So ATI releases new 9200Se for Dell. How nice of them. Just what dell needs another cheap vid card. That they will tell people its the greasest for the money. So how much does dell charge?

The Dell thing was a guess, based on the fact that my neighbor's new Dell came with an upgrade from onboard graphics to the ATI Rage 128 Pro 4x...because he told them he was a gamer.

Of course the good thing about that purchase is that Dell used one of the boards that actually had a AGP slot, so he CAN upgrade.

LET DELL BE DAMNED! A Rage for a modern gamer... despicable... Hell if they were even smart they'd have told him he ABSOLUTELY NEEDED a 9800 Pro. Then they'd probably make some money.

Ah, but this was last year, the 8500 was current back then. He wanted the "absolute best gaming system for the money" so they sold him a P4 1.4 Williamette with that old Rage card, for $1200. Heck, I think it even came with 256MB SDRAM!

His wife makes the purchasing decisions. At that time I was trying to sell them a PIII 1000EB with a Radeon DDR, 512MB, a huge software package, and a huge new hard drive, for $800. She said it would have been "too slow". It got about 3x as many FPS as the system she bought.

Imagine the laughter, 1200 marks in 3D-Mark 2001 on a NEW system!

I never buy value video cards, but I just did for the first time. I wanted to replace the ancient TNT2 on one of my PC's hooked up the LAN. Only use the 3 yearold PC when I play friends via LAN. Got a Chaintech brand Geforce 4 MX440 DDR for only $40 U.S. Slapped in a spare slot cooler and OC'd it, just ran UT2003 benchmarks, and everything's 4X faster. I expected a gain from the old TNT2, but for the price of one PC game, i got a helluva lot.

Nvidia makes the best value cards (IMO)

you could have gotten a 9100 or 8500le for that price , and it would be twice as fast =)

MX440 is acceptable, for 40 bucks yes if you prefer nvidia and dont want to bother researching other alternatives. how was was Genetic Weapons Ti4200? 80 bucks?
