Try taking out the battery and unplugging the power cord.

thnx man. that actually worked. but its freezing in one place all the time now, unless its on ''safe mode''. and the screen looks really big and blurry. nonetheless i'm really grateful as its working again!!!

The video card driver is not loaded in safe mode, the system uses a generic video driver, which can provide low resolution only, that's why the screen is looking big and blurry.

This is especially useful if the video driver is the cause of the freeze, because you can reinstall it, or update it to a fresh version.

In safe mode, you can also run a file system/hard disk error test.

A memtest is also useful. It is done by using a bootable CD which can be downloaded from here: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

Under what circumstances does it freeze? When, where, why? if it freezes just on the desktop, how long does it take before it freezes? make model laptop info?

;-)

I think we haven't reached to that point yet.
It's not even clear, if the error is caused by hardware or software fault.
