LOL whats a Radeon 5800 pro???
Dont you mean either R9700pro or R9800pro?

I personally prefer ATi now as there is less of a hit using AA and the cards are cheaper (and 5900's were hard to find, at least a few weeks back)

To avoid further flame wars, the answer is MATROX

MAT!!!!!!ROX~!!!!!!!

Proud Owner the Block Heater
120% nVidia Fanboy
PROUD OWNER OF THE GEFORCE FX 5900ULTRA <-- I wish this was me
I'd get a nVidia GeForce FX 5900Ultra... if THEY WOULD CHANGE THAT #()#@ HSF

ROFLMAO! Ahh, I have a Convert! 1 point!

The MatROX Paraphernalia, to steal someone elses name for it. With the upcoming 512mb version it's gotta be the best!

In regards to the question, here's my answer:

"What do YOU like?!?" Whomever you prefer go with them, you'll likely do OK. I have a preference, but it's due to actions by the parent company, not the card itself (except a potential issue in HL2 which isn't enuff' IMO).

I can show you a dozen benchmarks/reviews showing either one or the other being the 'better' card. In the end, they ae on par. Go for price and personal prefeence (features, software, brand you prefer).

But in reality I don't like either the FX5900s or the R9800s. I'm still waiting for the next gen. Now an RV380/R420 sounds nice (I just read the R420 may contain multiple [equivalent of 4 R9600s] VPUs on one chip).

That's my two frames worth.

Forget ati or nvidea, SiS all the way. I was playing tomb raider at 400x300 on a celeron 400 at 20fps with a SiS 8mb card! Oh and unreal tourney at 512x384 @ 21fps lol. Then I got my first 3d card, a voodoo 3 and ran those games at 1024x768 @ 25-40fps! Boy what a wake up call. Nice memories....

Realy what card will give better performance: Radeon 9800 pro 128 or Fx 5900 128 (non Ultra)? Price R9800 $399 Fx 5900 $350.

Likely the R9800Pro will give you better performance, however is it $40 better? I don't know. Really depends on what you play. Origianlly I thought the question was about Pro v. Ultra, where they are the same. However the PRo v. non-ultra, I'd have to say the pro will almost always do better. Just from what I've seen out there.

The 9800pro should beat the 5900 non ultra easily. All the benchies ive seen indicate; 5900ultra>9800pro>5800(new)/5900 9700pro>9500pro>9600pro>5600. In reality though, the 5900ultra and 9800pro are very close, the 5800,5900np and 9700pro are very close and the 9500pro,9600pro and 5600 are close.

Well here's a recent GOOD REVIEW comparing the two (passively cooled Sapphire R9800Pro in this case) at Digit-Life. I don't think I've seen ANY recent reviews that put the FX5900U above the R9800Pro all the time, I'd say the end result is always R9800P >=< FX5900U. One wins test A loses test B ties test C, etc.
The only thing that is clear to me, is that they are both very close, and it will be more test/game specifics or brand specifics that will be the best determinant of which is best for a particular user/buyer. That and whatever looks coolest in your rig. I say go for the Hercules R9800P, can't beat a Blue LED on Blue PCB!

I think he thought you were talking about him. Hah! Anyway, I'd definitely go ATi 9800P 128mb.

Check http://pricewatch.com, you can pick up a 9800 Pro for about $350.

$500 5900u = $500 9800P 256 = $350 9800P 128 > $350 5900

These days, no matter what company you like, be it nVidia, ATi, or whatever, no matter how logical your reasons, you're labeled an idiot or a fanboy, or both.

Just go with the cheaper GF, ya save $40 bucks. Otherwise, just flip a coin and see which one wins, it's all good.

Ok fool, but I ain't buying one from the guy dressed in black who comes around the corner at night after 12....may not have the best rep. Newegg has a 9800 pro for a few bucks more expensive than a 5900, and perhaps he is using a different dealer.
