GeForce Ti 4800 SE or the FX 5600

i know you are going to say radeon 9600 pro beats them both for same price, but i dont want an ATi card because they dont like me

I believe the Ti4800 is a bit better than a 5600 non-ultra.

I was looking for the exact same thing. The 4800 will be a bit faster as long as you dont use Fsaa and Anisotropic filtering. As soon as you turn these up the Ti4xxx take a serious fall while the Fx5600 will still run at acceptable speed. As mentioned earlier, the Fx5600 supports DX9 for future game altough its questionnable wheter it will be pwoerfull enough to run full DX9 games...

But dx9 games will run a hell of a lot better and with more features on an FX5600 than a Ti4800SE (Ti4200 w/ 8x AGP). I'd go for the FX5600 cause chances are it'll last you some more.

Alright.. I won't recommend you an ATI card because you have said you don't want one, but PLEASE!.. do yourslef a favor, and get a 5600 Ultra (revision 2, i.e. 400mhz core). Wait a few months for the price to come down, if you want.

So much better than a 5600 non ultra. TI4800 SE = ti4400 + AGP 8x TI4800 = ti4600 + AGP8x.

Both will whoop the 5600 non-ultra most of the time, except with AA/aniso and DX9 titles, as previously stated.

But the 5600 non-ultra will be too slow to really crank up the settings on DX9 titles or use AA aniso in them, youll end up playing at 1024x768 medium to high (not max) detail with no AA and no aniso. So those theoretical advantages wont see a whole lot of real-life application (except using AA/aniso in older games, but a TI4800 could do that too...)

Like I posted in another thread, Check out <A HREF="http://www.envynews.com/?ID=511" target="_new">THIS</A> review to get an idea about how poorly the FX5600 does against the GF4ti. Especially not the GunMetal benchmark as it is supposed to be a good demo of early DX9 game requirements (although it's not related to the actual game performance, it's a tweaked bench).

Simply put, I'd agree, with WS, wait 'til you can afford an FX5600Rev.2. Either that or go with the GF4ti, and then upgrade later. The advanatges of the FX5600 will be very VERY limited, and the advantages of the GF4 seem much more numerous, IMO. And, BTW, I don't agree with the reviewer it's not a good card; I think they were looking at some other benchmark results, or don't realize there are other cards out there.

the fx 5600 ultra rev 2 does look a lot better than that 4800 se, though it is like $50 more. ill be going on vacation for 2 weeks, maybe the prices will drop

Had this been posted a month or two ago i would have agreed on getting a Ti card. But really there is no point as the FX5600 is about the same price if not cheaper, and the cards usually come with better or more recent games. If you buy an OEM i guess that doesnt matter. The FX5600 is plenty fast for current games at 1024x768 with all the good stuff turned on. And if you dont like to turn that stuff on, the fx5600 still gives you playable framerates for less then a Ti4600 or Ti4800. As for the Ultra, im not sure that the performance increase is worth the extra $70 or so. But its all a matter of how much youre willing to spend. If you want to spend $270 I would definately get a 5800. I am seriously considering throwing down on one of these myself.

i bought the 5200 ultra for 109 bucks and i play just great with my 333 fsb athlon 2600 so im sure the 5600 get the ultra dont buy 5600 non its a bad card for the price will play faster then u think the ti cards are dead but fast for the next year
