I think the real question is, what's the difference between the 9700 and 9800 series (and what does the PRO designation actually mean besides higher clock?)

The difference between the 9700pro and the 9800np is
1. Clock speeds- 325/310 for the 9700p and 325/290 for the 9800np.
2. The 9800 has an improved core over the 9700
Smoothvision 2.1 and Smartshader 2.1
There are 3 different varities of BB ati 9800np's out there, the difference being the RAM on the board. If your lucky like myself you get Samsung 2.8ns ram and can easily clock your card to 9800pro clocks. If your not so lucky you will get 3ns or 3.3ns chips. These will overclock as well but not to pro speeds. If they are the same price the 9800 is your best bet.
