Video issues using a Sony sdm81s monitor

Hi all I hope someone here can answer my question. My brother just gave me an
18 inch Sony LCD monitor. I have an older 866 XPS_R system. I have an Nividia
gforce DDR video card, in the system.. I downloaded drivers from the Sony
website and the install went very well....The only problem I am having is that
their are Horizontal scan lines or small gray bars across the moniter like
every other line or at lines of text that you can see vividly on a white
backgound especially. I have a feeling is has to do with a video card issue or
refresh rate problem...I would appreiciate any input from anyone here regarding
possible problems and I will say I already know about the sony trinitron lines
for instance but that is not what it is because they are every other
