Looks like extending their DX9 hardware down to their lowest priced part wasnt such a thing to be feared after all.

IIRC, they did this with their DX7 parts in their second gen, and never did such thing with DX8, but its nice to see their first gen DX9 hardware be treated this way..
its almost like companies are afraid no ones going to buy the faster parts if they can get DX9 for $60!!

Though functions are getting complicated enough that the slow cores, memory and limited pixel pipelines keep everything nice and slow.. but its a nice selling point for OEMs and allows nvidia to further push CG and other nvidia specific optimizations to developers.. very nice.

It's FX5200 who makes the difference. ATI lose in low-end market because 9100/9200 is not DX9 card.

If I agree with you... will you shut up?

Hehe, it's all about misleading statements with these companies, isn't it? I mean, the low end FX cards go head to head with the old DX8 cards from ATI...so even if ATI sells more, they are excluded by this statement because the cards aren't DX9.

Chevy makes the most powerfull 5.7L truck engine. I saw it in a comercial. And nobody else makes a 5.7L. Ford of course claimed the most powerfull 5.8L (no longer in production), and Chrysler the most powerfull 5.2L and 5.9L. It's all about excluding the competition by using exclusive terms.

im sick of the video card industry\

its all hype and lies. if they told the truth, they would see that DX9 compliance means nothing if the specs arent powerful enough. the consumer loses from this

I know! This is so stupid....I'd hardly call it a success if nVidia is selling the most $100 "DX9" cards because there is no other DX9 card in that price range and DX9 means nothing to a card that slow.

A toytoa tucamoa? TOYOTA TACOMA... its not that hard. You even WORK in the industry!!!! If I don't know something about, oh I don't know, medicine.. so be it. I'm not a doctor. But you DO work with/on trucks and in that industry, and can't even spell the competitions name?

I hope you don't represent everyone making the UAW manifolds (and other stuff) for GM. Are you one of their low-wage immigrant workers?

And BTW, GM does not make the most powerful V-8 engines on the planet.

This is all going to bite Nvidia in the butt AGAIN when people try to play dx9 games with their dx9 card only to find out that they're getting 3 fps.

How many FPS do you think the 9200 is going to get in those games?

If the customers are expecting a 5900-like card for <$100, then they are just stupid and it's their own fault..

It's funny, EACH company has it's PR win in this segment.

Read <A HREF="http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/3/32115.html" target="_new">THIS Article</A> at the Register.

So ATI's chipping away at Nvidia's dominance?

Just goes to show you can make the stats 'prove' whatever you want.

Xbit has the numbers on the current state of which graphics solution maker has what sized hunk of the market. Intel is actually the biggest shipper, but that's for all fields. In the desktop arena, Nvidia still holds 64% of the market, with ATI at 28%, with no change since last quarter. What does it mean? Neither Nvidia or ATI are in any danger of dying.
I throught ATI was a bigger seller than that.

Sad thing is they own the mid-to-high end market, but the mainstream has suckers everywhere buyin' FX5600 non-Ultras, and then the low-end literally has a sign saying "For nVidia only". They own it.

ATi has the high-end.

not necessarily~~~~~
nVidia still owns in the Open GL market
PC magazines still are telling people FX5900Ultra pwns all
also the "high-end" is about 5-10% of the entire market, simply people are not willing to pay the money for a video card when they could spend that money and get ram+mobo+CPU nowadays~~~

Proud Owner the Block Heater
120% nVidia Fanboy
PROUD OWNER OF THE GEFORCE FX 5900ULTRA <-- I wish this was me
I'd get a nVidia GeForce FX 5900Ultra... if THEY WOULD CHANGE THAT #()#@ HSF
