5600ultra or 9600pro?

Which should I buy? Benchmarking results and reviews have wide discrepancies in results (I have read THG's). It is difficult to know what is best for real world use to a gamer. Which card is more forward looking regarding upcoming games?

Which should I buy?

Whichever one, between the FX5600Ultra Revision 2 and the R9600Pro, you like. They perform on par with each other trading positions based on test/game. Then there are features/drawbacks specific to each card (pixel shader performance, etc) for that you will have to do more research, as scary as that sounds.

Which card is more forward looking regarding upcoming games?

Neither IMO, both are nice cards but neither is future-proof/resistant (and I say that as an owner of a GREAT example of the BBA R9600P). They will both do what they are meant to do, play GREAT with DX8 (8.1) and under games, and play (just play) DX9 titles so as to not make your eyes dry up! Everyone will have their opinion as to what makes a 'future proof feature' from PS performance, to UltraShadow, to HL2 AA bug. All of these things impact the future, but not much IMO, since you aren't really going to be playing the fully DX9 titles at max. anyways because it will 'Kill the CAR'd (adapted from Ferris Bueller).

Find the best price you can and the extra features (like cables, software, vivo, Eavil Goalie Box, that you like and go with that.

In other words; I dunno!

5600U rev2 is still a bit expensive AFAIK, so the 9600P is probably a better deal. They both perform about the same.

Thanks for the response I think that the best answer seems to be wait awhile and prices will drop on the 5900 and 9800. I currently have a 4200 ti so maybe I should wait till H.L.2 comes out. The 4200ti can handle U.R.2 so may be I should wait and upgrade my MB and proc for the time being.

I think 5900 Ultra and 9800 Pro will not be much cheaper when new cards will come. They may just vanish from the market, GeForce3 for example.

yes i agree

that card is exactly the same as teh faster cards (9800pro) .. with only a reduction in clock speeds. something that overclocking cant make up for in the mid range cards.

my next purchase will be a 9700pro or non pro. when the 9900pro comes out the 9700(pro) will be a *steaL*
