Either ULTRA would be beter than the GF4ti in MOST cases, however like Caimbuel said, try and grab the Rev.2 (400/400) if you can.

Guys, sorry to say but a Ti4600 -to borrow Matisaro's famous quote- 'ass-rapes' a 5600 Ultra.
First of all, the 5600 Ultra rev. 2 competes well against the 9600PRO. The 9700 is in its own league but it is the Ti4600 equal in the majority. The 9500PRO has an easy time tying the 5600 Ultra. In normal quality gaming, the 9500PRO is generally weaker than the Ti4600. Mind telling me how the heck a 5600 Ultra rev.2 ended as better now?! Are still reading THG's Buyer's Guide? Ape, no!

Prove me wrong.

Eden, I think our views are different on this for one reason , and that would be performance vs. price/performance). SURE the GF4ti might do better in alot of areas but it's usually the areas that are pulling in 200+FPS. So the wins are hollow to me. Play the more modern stuff and it's a little closer, and one or the other might just squeak past. Turn on AA/AF and raise the res. and the FX (occasionally even the non-Ultra has a SLIGHT edge) pulls ahead again. I'd also say that the newer RAMDACs also improve IQ and that's a nice bonus. And while I agree it's not a MAJOR factor DX9 is nice for demos, even if it will likely only allow you one or two extra options in future games instead of the 7+ advertised because it's DX9 compatible, just not fully capable.

Now I'm not saying it's necessarily worth the additional coin to go for a Rev.1 when for just a few bones more you could get a rev.2 But straight up card to card I'd take the 5600Ultra Rev.1 or Rev.2 for simple superiority. As money well spent, now that's different. Like I said go with the Rev.2 but I've seen alot of benchmarks where the GF4s just seem to fall of a cliff, whether it was just the 4800/4400/4280/4200/etc or also the 4600 I can't remember (unfortunately don't bookmark just the FX5600U/GF4 when it doesn't include the R9600 somewhere [I only have one FX5600non-ultra review vs other GF cards, no Ultras like that]) but that the impression I'm left with, I'd have to double check to be absolutely sure.

Anywhoo, that's my take on it. I know where you coming from an if the question were worded differently I'd give a different answer. But for what was asked I stand by my answer.

EDIT: Here's a PC Stats Article from today (yesterday), it involves the GF4ti4600 against an FX5600non-ultra. Now I know the FX5600 gets spanked often, but I have a feeling the Ultras come out looking a little better. Too bad the AA/AF tests weren't vs the other cards.

Well, Grape's benches will do for now. We can't extrapolate so it's hard. Guess we'd have to refer to older THG guides.
