RV360 and R360 Brand-Names?

Probably, the product code-named R360 will be almost surely called as the RADEON 9900 PRO, but a thing I am wondering about now is the official brand-name of the RV360 PRO, an overclocked version of the RADEON 9600 PRO.

In order to show the strength of the new VPU, ATI Technologies will have to change its brand-name a bit.

A way to show the higher-speed compared to the predecessor is to introduce a graphics processor with higher number in the brand-name. But ATI already has the RADEON 9800 and the RADEON 9700 graphics chips and the only spare number less than 10 000 is the RADEON 9900. But the RADEON 9900 PRO is actually another high-end chip we know as the R360. Moreover, the RADEON 9900 does not seem to be a good number for the RV360 because it will be slower compared to the RADEON 9700 and 9800 products and such brand-name will heavily mislead the end-users.

Check this article at Xbit LAbs. I tried to post a comment to the article, but it wouldn't take (kept giving me errors [tried on many browsers with diff. levels of security])

The R9900 is just about a sure thing, but here's MY suggestions for names to the RV360, like I posted in Xbit's forum.

How about the R9500Pro :wink:

R9666EVIL Good followup to the R9600PRo Evil Goalie :evil:

R9669 for those sexually frustrated computer geeks and fans of palindromes.

R9600FRO Cause Black is Beautiful Baby! Once you go Black you'll never go Back. What happened to the Sapphire Black PCB?

R9600.2.7.1 w/ SP2 + patch 303

R9630GOD To counteract the evil the divine divisable Trinity.

R9600Pro Revision 2 The ONLY thing more nV-like than that would be to call it the ULTRA!

P10 or Vodoo 7 7777 :wink:

R9600SpecialUltimatePerformanceAdvancement or the R9600SUPA for short

and finally;

Reason to Upgrade #71 What? That's what most people will be calling it! :tongue:

I think they should Start naming their Cards after colours, and then they could be like the paint companies with the Radeon EGGShel to be followed by the Radeon Alabaster and the Radeon Linen. That would avoid confussion!

The R10,000 will be reserved likely for the R420 (which will also be a DX10 compliant part according to rumours/news) 'R10K for DX10' I can see the PR now. Sucky PR, but I can see it.

The R9900 is the R360 it's almost guaranteed; the question is what becomes of the RV360. Likely some stupid name addition in the end, something like R9600Ultimate or Extreme, or ProPlus. Something stoopid like that.
