I am trying to install Windows XP on:

* Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120G SATA
* ASUS 7N8X de Luxe (revision 1.6)(bios 1002.A)
* AMD 2600
* Twinx Corsair 3200 2x256
* Hercules 3D prophet 9700

I have partioned the hdd using fdisk since the Win XP setup does not see the HDD if I boot from the Win XP and have formated it

Windows XP fails to install:

1- If I boot from the Win XP CD, the set up won't copy files to the HDD because it says it does not see any hdd

2- if I boot from floppy and run d:/i386/winnt.exe,
a) If do the installation with no smartdrv, it will not copy files to the HDD (tried this twice and waited for 20 minutes).
b) If do the installation with smartdrv, Win XP setup copies the files to the hdd and then it asks for a reboot (okay so far). After the reboot, the Win XP begins but fails shortly after with a blue screen error: STOP 0X0000007B (0xF898963C, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000. 0X00000000)

What am I doing wrong? why does the win XP setup fail to see the hdd? what could be causing the blue screen? do I need to do something in particular considering it is a SATA hard drive?
Any advice is highly appreciated :)

Did you press F6 when WinXP started initializing its installation to load its driver?

:smile: Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.

I'm also using hercules 9700 like you.
Can i know what is your 3dmark2003 and 3dmard2001 score.
What setting are you running with.
Did you use hercules 3d tweaker to tweak the core speed...

thanks for your reply, i would really be thankfull

If you love something set it free, if it doesn't come back, hunt it down and kill it !!!

d00d, he doesn't even have windows installed yet... he can't run 3dmark.

The second time your computer boots up, I think it actually boots from the hard drive. Make sure that your SATA is selected somewhere in the boot order. My guess is that it isn't on there.
