Ok, seems a lot of my projects in school involve taking some sort if video and editing it, often the video being in analog form (damn teachers get impressed when u do a ppt presentation with video and all). Usually it's done at my friend's studio but it gets annoying. I've been looking for a tuner card and came across a compusa sale selling an AVer TV Studio TV Tuner with Remote. Never heard of these guys and would like opinions. Go for it? Will it give good quality? I'm aware it'll do the mpeg encoding via the proc, I have a 1.2 Ghz and can spare the resources when necessary.

It's not about good or bad, it's about which gets you rich and laid faster.

I've heard they were mediocre quality. They usually are not recommended versus products from Hauppauge and Pinnacle (not a 'tuner' card just capture). However depending on your needs it should be fine. It just may be a little more finiky than the hauppauge. The quality should be ok seems to capture at MPEG2 and SuperVCD levels. So as long as it records when you press rec. you should be fine. I think the main draw-back was that it wasn't as elegant as the others, especially since it didn't come bundled with killer editing software (which I assume you can get on your own). So do you need ease of use or save a few bucks?

Anywho that's just what I remember reading on them.

I'm still capturing with DV - Firewire - Computer. I'm pondering a Hauppauge card, but there are none of the one's I want in town (either the cheap WinTV or the PVR (don't need PVR function for $200CDN) and none have SVHS/VIDEO.

- You need a licence to buy a gun, but they'll sell anyone a stamp (or internet account) ! RED GREEN GA to SK

I also spoke with Jaythaman and went ahead and got it. Yet to test it on video, but the fm radio is great! It has many more features than I expected, and it looks like the quality wil be great. I have adobe premiere for editing, so that's fine.
