Your thoughts on a XPC and p4 or amd for games?

Ok I need as many opinions as i can get. Im making a new system (ethier shuttle xpc or a tower). Now if your like me you go to a lot of lan parties. This is where the XPC's small size comes into play. You don't have to be dragging around that huge heavy tower all the time(which i hate to do), you can just have a really small fast xpc. Now if you think i should get an XPC, which one? what is better for games intel or amd? ati or nvidia? If i get an XPC im going to get the best single slot card because i need the pci slot for my audigy2.

The reason im posting this is because I just hear people talk a lot about how XPC's have heat problems and noise problems. Do you think that there will be a big difference in game performance comparing an XPC and a regular tower system?

Thank you for reading

Yes, I do go to alot of LAN parties. I prefer AMD cpus, ATI graphics cards, and mid/full tower cases, cause theyre pimpin like a big cadillac that gets 9mpg, whereas a mini-pc is like a pu**y-a$$ economy car (14m3!).

Counterstrike sux major balls, so I refuse to help you any more.

All four of those companies would be a good choice for performance, depending on which models you select. What kind of budget are you on? If you are willing to go all out, you might want to get a higher clocked P4 with an 800 MHz Or 1000 MHz bus paired up with a GeForce FX 5900 Ultra or Radeon 9800 Pro if you want better AA and AF. But if your like me and on a budget I would HIGHLY reccomend the Athlon XP 2500+ or 2600+ paired up with a Ti 4200. If you can afford a bit more for your Graphics card, I would go with a Radeon 9600 Pro or a GefForce FX 5600 Ultra which will perform similarly to a GF 4 Ti on DX8 games and SLIGHTLY better on DX9 games. If your on an Extremely tight budget, I would go for a Radeon 8500 LE which will offer DX8.1 compliance and be on par with a GF3 Ti 200.

Does anyone have reccomendations on Motherboards?

once again , heed the gr3atness that is willamette

seriously stfu dood

now .. you shouldnt compare brand names. both companies have cards for different scenarios. i prefer ATI *in general* because they have better drivers with full Image Quality enabled and because their cards are *generally* cheaper for the performance you get

AMd vs Intel? well...

you can get a 2500+ Barton for 90 bucks USD or 130 Canadian. sweet ass deal... and top performing motherboards are like 70UDS.

intel might give you a little more oomph, but cost twice as much. Intel is very, very nice but so can AMD if you spend just as much

theres no way you could fit a hot 2500+ and TI4600 and 350watt PSU in a mini case. itd blow up =)

youd prolly end up with a low end motherbooard in one of those cases... because of the small PSU.. and that would also limit the video card you could put in

you gotta sacrifice one for teh other (size / performance)

also, in a compact package (that little PC you talked about) you ownt get the same performance as a full mid tower. because of the heat high performance cards and cpus dissapate

Get yourself a P4 2.4C, Intel has more memory bandwidth which equals better gaming since games love memory bandwidth. BTW the P4 is gonna run cooler than an AMD and that is very helpful if you're going with a smaller enclosure.

true about the heat

but, games love floating point performance so thats why Athlons are just as good

my next pc will be an athlon64 xpc (its in plannings i think)..

or a pentium M laptop with radeon9600mobile.. :D

those are the only good processors out there. much power for the power you feed in. both current amds and current pentium4s are filled with too much crap, and designed much too less efficient.

Well as far floating point performance goes my 2.4C at stock speed gets about 4400 MFPLOS while an XP3200+ gets about 3400 MFPLOS, you do the math.

you do the math.
LOLOLOLOL

you gotta love those short quick "check your facts, idiot" insults

look . for 130 bucks canadian you can get a 2500+.. that will easy do just as good as a 2.4C which costs 280 canadian

what? huh? the intel costs twice as much! whoa!

now.. just about every 2500+ barton can be taken to 3000+ or higher speeds.. paired with THIS MOTHERBOARD it would eastily compete with a 2.8c or even 3.0c

and only for 250 bucks, or 200 USD. now you tell ME where the value is? next time dont ASSUME that someone hasnt done their research and doesnt know what they are talking about. I KNOW a 3.2C p4 will O/C higher and perform better , but who the hell has 600 dollars for a CPU and 250 for a mobo?

Sorry didn't mean it to come across as an insult. I'm not talking about overclocking because the same thing can be done with the 2.4C. I was merely stating the fact that at stock speed the 2.4C has a floating point advantage on the XP3200+, so it obviously has an advantage over the 2500+.

I have an XPC and so far im very pleased with its performance in games. As for processors it really doesnt matter which CPU you get wether it be AMD 3200+ or P4 3.2ghz if your going to play games buy a top of the line videocard.

Oh yeh a little note XPCs do get a little hot but nothing that can melt your PC components. I certainly doubt you'll be getting heat related errors unless your overclocking to the max.

I think it,s good thing to throw a brab at me,But in ref to riding a bus for the handicaped is a little harsh,There are alot of them riding a bus as you mention.Use less senestive examples to whack me OK thx,s.
BTW I,m not doughting you that I should be on one of the buses, but that is in another chapter of the book.

edit your posst that way you don't haft to add another post, just a suggestion.

And for the AMD comment about hot AMD,s give me something to go on about which ones are not hot running!!!.I have never said anything bad about AMD.Got to have one to hate them never had one so I can't hate AMD so don't even go there.I,ve just been lucky enough to have the money to get the best to start with :).
