Hi all. My local comic shop is hosting a Kamigawa-block 'Highlander'
tournament. Apparently, this means that every card (except for basic lands)
is restricted and we can use only one. We are allowed 60 card decks and no
sideboard.
I've never played in a format like this, so any help would be most welcome.
The most I can ghink of would be the following: Sakura-Tribe Elder, Kodama's
Reach, and Gifts Ungiven. Maybe also tallowisp.
It seemes to me that the more tutors available, the better.
I assume this format would be slow, so any helpI could get would be great.

You may want to use Forbidden Orchard and Tendo Ice Bridge for land.
Meloku is a complete powerhouse, and interacts extremely well with the Tendo
Ice Bridge. (And it only has one blue mana in its CC, making it easy to
cast)
Eerie Procession might be a good choice, since many of the powerful cards in
your deck will be Arcane.
Journeyer's Kite might also be a good option, since Tribe Elder and Kodama's
Reach are restricted. It's slower, but it provides consistent land-fetching.
If you're going to use lots of tutors and land fetch, Sensei's Divining Top
becomes a pseudo-Scry 3 every turn.
Any of the Dragons become great kill conditions (Keiga especially, since
Ryusei isn't as good as Keiga and the rest cost double [or triple] colored
mana).
If you're going to be running various Legendary creatures, Time of Need
might be good to fetch the Legend you need *right now*. And it's also an
additional shuffle effect for the Top.
I'd imagine that this format would be dominated by creatures, so removal and
recursion would be necessary. Nezumi Graverobber is mana intensive, but not
colored-mana intensive, so he may be a good option. Rend Spirit/Rend Flesh
would be good options for removal.
Running 3 colors, splashing for a 4th may not be the wisest move, especially
where you don't have the full compliment of Tribe Elders, but running 2
colors and splashing for a 3rd probably wouldn't screw you up too much.

I worry about giving the other guy too many 1/1 spirits with which he could
run me over. I am planning on running the nine-ringed Bo, however, as it
seems like good spot removal and protection against nasty spirit shenanigans

This, Keiga, and Time of Need will have to go in, I think.
My original plan was R/G/U and concentrating on the splice/arcane stuff.
Black for both the legendary flip rats seems like a good idea. Almost seems
like B/U might be a powerful combination. There's a lot of good stuff there.

Yup, using it. Wish I could run fabricate

I wonder if that green 'sac three spirits, put a legend into play' card
would be good in this deck. Pretty much another time of need.
