I'm not sure what I did, but my 'show desktop' icon in the quick launch no
longer works.

It's there, but the icon is the generic unreconized icon, and when i click
it, it says the link is missing and searches for it but with no results.

anyone know how i can restore it?

don't know about the icon but you can use the shortcut keys as follows:

press and hold the "windows key" (the one with the windows flag) and press "d"

that will do the same thing

Type this in Start/Run:

regsvr32 /i shell32
