Yipee, my R9600Pro performs well compared to the FX5900U. That's all I need to hear.

Those people are mean, I wanted to see a graph so I could know in a second what the performance was like, but instead I gotta read! Argh, reading is bad for you!

So there, yer precious nVidia's best card gets compared to a mid-end card by ATi. And even with OPTIMIZATIONS as you put in your posts, they suck.

Truth be told Flamey, no one has yet tried DX9 programming on the Quadro FX. No one knows in fact if this pro card can do well in DX9, but does well in OpenGL.

Anybody else thought about this? I don't recall OpenGL being the only programming language for the professional segment.

I feel bad for those who bought FX5600s. Boy will they be pissed.

They had to code only for nVidia to get moderate performance, ATi did not get any, ROFL!

At least the P4 when optimized for, kicks the AXP's arse, but this humiliation of a card?

I need a stand-up comedy drumroll for nVidia! DUM DUM TISS!

There are a few performance figures (for those like Flamey [yes I know you were kidding]), notice my R9600P(is that a NON-PRO in their figures? NO!) KILLS the FX5900U.
And I particulary LOVE the last line of the first page. Sounds about right to me.

Wow!

Waht a slap in the face of nVidia... I think many "nVidia fanboi" will be pissed off, when they will have to run HL2 at low-res or in DX8 mode to get decent performance.

Good luck to the drivers team at nVidia... They are probably at hard work now to find tweaks, twist and optimisations...

All I have to say to Valve is bravo. Enough with optimizations!

Yes, many thanks to Gabe Newell for showing the world what nVidia has done. Thanks to him for not benchmarking with the Detonator 50 that will be full of Cheaptimzations.

yeah, congrats to valve to stand in front of everything and just say "nvidia, you suck!" :D well.. in a bether tone, but definitely that.

you suck because of your very bad dx9 hw
you suck because of your still bad dx8 hw actually:D
you suck because of all your cheats
and we will [-peep-] you if you try to cheat on our game! :D

thats quite strong words.. impressive in a capitalistic system to do such a move and don't let yourself get buyed up by nvidia like futuremark did:D

Correction, that would be: They are probably at hard work now to find cheats, bypasses and image quality reduction...

BTW guys, *shrugs*, now whenever we see the AthlonFX and talk about it, we'll shrug remembering the stigma the 'FX' tag had with the NV3x cards. Damn, a good product gets the FX treatment, DIRTY DIRTY!

I can imagine nVidia though: "The new system by Falcon combines the power of the geForce FX5900 Ultra (given the award for best GPU of 2003 by the industry) with the Athlon FX 64 which is optimized for the flagship nVidia video card, tailored to bring the next generation performance with unprecendented visuals and quality of gaming."

Brrrr, ugghh...

And the big question is : Why did AMD choose FX for their branding?

Any clue...

It would have been beter to call it :
Athlon 64
Athlon 64 PRO

I know, Intel called some Pentium PRO. But, It mean something... FX sounds Video/audio processing FX = "effects".

Argh! Only 60 FPS at 1024x768 for the top performing 9800 Pro.

This doesn't bode well for the majority of consumers. Whether it be video card limited or system limited that score doesn't look very promising.

FX = "effects".

The new GeForce "FX" the public's opinion of Nvidia.

I'm not superstitious, but its almost like the "FX" tag on video products acts as a bad-luck charm. Look at 3dfx who was abosorbed by Nvidia. Now Nvidia touts the "FX" line as their 1st class trophy/ Gold Medallion product. Now look at Nvidia - some trophy! Now AMD  is wearing the "FX" badge on their products.

one more reason I won't buy ATI cards, and lucky that I'm even buying Half-Life 2 after Newell's blatant lies:

"Newell strictly dismissed rumors that his comments about the disappointing performance of NVIDIA cards were based on a deal between Valve and ATi."

Gotta love when Gabe shoves us the BS. Shady business practices of ATI vs. the ATI-fanboy labelled "cheating" on video card drivers? I'll take nVidia over ATI anyday for that reason alone.

Just love it when ignorant ATI fanboys claim optimizations are cheats.<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by dinoX on 09/11/03 09:46 AM.</EM></FONT></P>
