I need to use a few very important websites for work which use Java applets.
About 8 or 9 days ago, I started having trouble getting these sites to work.
I finally noticed that I was getting messages that the applet wouldn't load
in the bottom line on the browser.

I decided to do a Java update and then a Windows update to make sure
everything was current. This had no impact. Then I checked settings in IE6
and on the Java console to make sure Java was still enabled. I couldn't find
any problems. Someone suggested trying Firefox to see if it was the browser,
and so I did. The applets didn't work in Firefox, either.

Therefore, the consensus is that there are Windows XP settings which affect
Java which have somehow been changed. Can anyone help me find out which
one(s) and clue me in on how to fix them?

Either as you said, the settings have changed or as we have found, many
applets used by vendor software in the Corporate/Enterprise environment are
notoriously written for a specific version of Java - without it, the applet
functions partially or just not at all. My PC at work has Java 1.3.1-1,
1.3.1-11, 1.4.2, and 1.4.3 - all because the vendor wrote the java applet
tools for their software to only work with X.x.x version.
