Usually not, but if the files of the update needs be repaired this can be affected too.

win7 updates?? winxp updates can take forever but win7?? i chg user for xp updates since it takes so long but win7 update i could not chg since its bout 10mins worth of updates..

Win 7 updates are very fast but some Office updates are the same that win XP updates, take a lot of time.
