Bought an Epson printer today and also picked up a printer cable , noticed
when I got home it is IEEE 1284 instead of 1394, is there a difference, and
can the 1284 be used. Thanks.

1284 is parallel

1394 is Firewire

Completly different

You will need either a 1394 Firewire cable or a USB cable. The printer may
have a parallel, but that's really slow
