I found this demo for some of the advanced lighting and other cool DX9 stuff. Anyone with a Geforce Fx have good fps while running this??? I heard HL2 will use some of this stuff.<A HREF="http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/index.html#Download" target="_new"> Clicky </A>

WOW! Some of the marbles and picutres of objects look outstanding. Ooohh I can't wait until games look this good.

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

<b><i>You</b></i> 'found' it , eh? I posted this bench here way back when I first got my R9600P. Love the demo, always has been one of my Favs. And UFO forget the marbles turn the object into a skulll and change the material Cool. The white marble skull with brown lines (forget the material name) look the coolest. The black onyx and emerald one's aren't bad.

There's a <A HREF="http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDk2" target="_new">review</A> of the FX5900U at [H] that uses it sorta at the back. They didn't show the R9800s frame rates to compare to the FX5900's. But there's some captures and stuff for ya'.

<A HREF="http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDk2" target="_new">http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDk2</A>

If you like demos check the other one's in that review they are fun too. Remember that there is a new version of the rthdribl demo out. Also go to that site and just check out the <A HREF="http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/" target="_new">MASA</A> part, there's more there.

Enjoy!

Cheers! BTW I'm getting 39fps with 4x multi sampling. Is that good for a 9700pro @ 380/340?

Hmmm interesting. The review of the 5900ultra shows it getting about 5fps. At the same setting I'm getting 23fps?
Also on the default setting, the ultra got 9fps and I get 39fps? LOL

I have a MSI 5900 Ultra.
Im downloading this gorgeous looking demo now, i will post my results, good or bad, but it would be nice if i didnt get a slamming for being an Nvidiot ;P

Also (feel free to bash me on this one!!) i have been running the "Call of Duty" Demo, i was under the impression it was a DX9 game? Is that right? Because it runs just fine. Awesome frame rates at max details 1600x1200 4xAF. It is very pretty.

There has been a lot of Nvidia bashing, and the HL2 stuff is VERY scary. I know Ati has a real quality to the graphics, but seriously, the 5900Ultra makes this and other (UT2003 etc dx8 i guess) games look yummy.
Still if the card really is a dog, i'll get the 9800 pro. :)

It would be interesting to compare. Run it as it is, without changing anything and let us know what fps you get in the top left corner. :)

Its a shame that nVidia cheated you out of a good card. You paid a premium price for that and you deserve the high-end performance that you pay for. I hope your card does run well, and that Detonator 50 could maybe doctor it up some.

I ran the demo for about 1 minute was between 9 and 12 fps sec on a asus 5900 using nivida latest drivers 45.xx ran demo in full screen mode. Alot of people bashing nivida or ati I bought a 5900 because of scores on THG but if nividia doesn't fix this problem with there next driver I will dump my card and go ati. I run GunMetal and full and max settings and it runs smooth as glass for me But I don't think it is dependant on shaders like HL2 is.

9-12fps without changing any settings, and just running it in full screen (640x480)? Wow I didn't think there would be that much difference between my card and a 5900... Just tried it again with the new drivers, almost constant 38fps in full screen mode!

If he has the money for a 5900, im sure he has a good system to back it up. :p If not, my systems nothing special. A 3ghz P4 would probably out perform my setup...

Good point, but sum people are crazy enought to think that pluggin in a brand new card on their PII 350 will bump them up to speed.

 I've never spent more than $100 for a Graphics card.

This demo is GORGEOUS quality.
10-20 fps loaded exactly as is.....
hmm not too good.
full screen was s...l...o...w.... 1600x1200 not really surprised. Still thats what i bought the card to do, and if it wont do it.... i will make another purchase.
We will see. Im in no hurry. Half Life 2 and DooM III still look a long way away.
I will wait for driver updates, code optimisation etc. and once these games are on the shelves, Nvidia will have no excuse.
I bought this card to play these games and run 3DStudio max... Max is just fine, but if i cant have yummy shader support in HL2 then i will sell it and buy whatever is better, simple as that.
Im not always so easy with my cash, but Half Life 2 etc are important games to me, im really looking forward to DX9 titles, and want to play them at decent quality.

Come on NVIDIA! Sort it out for us quick!!! :)

Damn, now I have to re-laod that benchmark (or find that old post (it's been months!) just to give you guys more stuff to compare.

I'll do that later, I've got 3 hrs left to go look at ski stuff. Got suck in here.

BTW, speed did you try thos FR demos that were also in the [H] review, they are kinda neat too. Not as polished (no pun intended) as the other one. They are interesting though (more entertaining, but not as 'WOW, SHINNY' graphically).

I've been too busy looking into epoxying my old 1700xp pally cooler to my new card. I should be at work, but since I strained my knee friday, I've been in the forums most of the day lol... I will try those demos later on. Tomorrow I think I will epoxy that cooler to the shim, and support the heatsink by looping some wire ties through the clips on the heat sink and tying them around the back, just to make sure it supports the extra weight, and makes good contact with the gpu.

I should then be able to keep the core at 390mhz or hopefully 400, and with the extra heat being transferred from the card, the memory should run a bit cooler too... I'm still amazed the stock cooler keeps it cool at 378mhz....

This is a really great little G-card test.
To get smoothy smoothe frame rates with my 5900ultra i do have to turn off some of the shader functions, but what you end up with image wise is still good.
Makes me realise that i could easily live without one or two eye-candy effects when HL2 comes around to kick my ass.
And up to this point i have always had to have most eye candy off anyways with my old systems.

Just ran the demo. 9-12 fps on Gainward FX 5900, 2500 barton,a7v8x-x, 512 kingston pc 2700. If things don't get better I will be getting a 9800 pro. I knew in the back of my mind when I got my computer I should have.

Fraggle, CoD is a Quake 3 engine-based game. I don't believe it could possibly have much DX9 implementation, it just doesn't look like DX9 is much flexible for old engines like these. Of course it'll run right, heh, almost any Q3 engine game, no matter how developped, runs awesome. RTCW:ET runs fine on my Ti200, even if it's newer than RTCW.

CoD worked fine too. I just don't like the stuttering happening sometimes.

Max is just fine, but if i cant have yummy shader support in HL2 then i will sell it and buy whatever is better, simple as that.
Only problem is, and correct me if I'm wrong (Dave!), 3DSMax is a big shader dev. program, and the FX architecture, if you used DX9 shaders, might cause you a lot of performance problems trying to work with the modelling and effects. Not sure though about it.

None the less, you are a good conscious buyer. You know if your card won't get the treatment it deserves from its maker, you'll switch. You're definitely nowhere near a fanboi, and that's cool!

i have the results now and it is really very slow on my system. Just getting a 2 - 5fps at 640*480 and multisampling a 4x with glare on.
