agp 8x wont boot in 4x mb

I have a low end pc chips 925L mb, agp 4x spec, now using chaintech nvidia gf2ti agp card fine.......trying to update to chaintech gf4 ti4200 (agp 8x, supposedly downward compatable).....wont pass post....tried bios to 2x, and 1x, no go....bios also has "current level set" capabilities, have not altered......I could give a hoot about 8x....any clues/ tricks/ jumpstart/ ideas? Thanks to all in advance.

If its not too late, I'd RMA, spend a few more bucks, and get a better brand. A couple of my friends have had problems with chaintech cards.

It's not an 8x/4x problem, it's a problem with either the board, power supply, or video card. I suspect the video card.
