Their poor performance of late and the FX scandal, has all led me to post this.

Post here if you agree.

There is no need. If the FX performance is as bad as Valve says. Word will get around and FX sales will drop dramatically (if they already haven't). So don't wory about it.

Yep. You are quite correct.
Many consumers, nay most dont know JACK about computers.
If the salesman says that integrated graphics or a Geforce4MX is really good then they blindly believe him.

Sad facts are that the top of the line R9800/FX5900 series only account for less than 5% of the graphics card market... and that doesnt even include integrated graphical solutions.

So all Nvidia has to do is to sink a few million into a glossy advertising campaign and vast numbers of people will believe the hype. Hell most probably dont even know that competition like Ati exists!

That's what THEY want you to think. Hey CoolSquirtle, I'll trade you an MX440 for that Ti4200 if you get it back from PNY

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

If thats the case then why did 3DFX go out of buisiness. They were pumping so much money into advertising. Thier cards were all over the place. They still went under. Give the condumer some credit. Also, not every sales person at a computer store is a moron. Most people ask the salesman. Usually (not always) they now whats up.

Well...it's happening.

1. Take a look at last quarter of fiscal year 2004, sales dropped.
2. If you look at the DOW for NVDA ticker, you'll notice that around June of this year they had profit surge spiking their share prices to over 20. This last month...prices on average are 5 dollars less per share. The slide is starting...and will be more noticeable if the nforce3 chipset is delayed (and because they lost the xbox contract of which 20% of their sales accounted). Check out the one month ticker and notice the downward slide. In fact, over the last two months, Nvidia's profits have plunged 25%...while this isn't an indication of how things WILL go...it is saying something is it not?
3. I checked on a few obscure webpages...mostly newsgroups and stock forums...and found something of interest. Nvidia expected a large year this year. And as you noticed in #2, it didn't happen. They built up an inventory of Xbox chips that Microsoft has made obsolete. They're stuck with them too...no where to put them. I'm sure they'll think of something.
4. Things have rebounded for them as of late. When I say as of late I mean just in the last quarter of this fiscal year (2004)...mainly due to platform and integrated graphics upswing in sales. But one can only suspect that with the Xbox loss and reputation loss...that something is going to happen soon. One thing that is certain...due to the die casts of the FX series...cost margins are high which will continue to drive prices through the roof. Check out here and notice the bit about cost margin. They're going to have to redesign from the ground up to drive that puppy down.
5. It should be our job to inform everyone we know about the shady business practices...the paper launched new products...the marketing schemes...and the optimizations. We shouldn't boycott...we should inform. This way Nvidia isn't totally slayed. Mainly we don't want them to drop out of the graphics war because they hold over half of it up. It would be like chopping 2 legs off of a kitchen table and expecting it to stay up.

I sure hope they figure out what the hell they are doing...because if they run their business thinking they are untouchable...they're going to find out that NOTHING is invincible. ATI will continue to grow...of that we can be sure.

As an early adopter of the FX5900 Ultra, I got hosed by Nvidia. I had ordered and received my card before any of this came to light, and now I'm feeling a bit PO'ed myself. While the speed and quality on my existing games is superlative, I bought the card so that I could play Doom3 and Half-Life 2 with all settings cranked and still get good framerates. I doubt I can get my money back for the card now, but I know that unless the Detonator 50 drivers fix the performance issues, I'll definately be picking up ATI's PCI Express card on my next upgrade around this time next year.

Check my post in this forum about the Detonator 50's beta drivers that Nvidia gave out. The reviewers checked the image quality of them as compared to a 9800 Pro w/ Cat 3.7's. Not a bad read.
