Hello Everyone,
Had a question reguarding a windows file, kinda. I'm running XP Pro, and in my main logon folder for temp files(c:\Documents and settings\main user\local settings\temporary internet files) it's reading 1.12GB. I deleted all the cookies and such there, turned off the system restore, scandisk, chkdsk, defrag (both Win and Nortons (I like the Nortons better), but it still reads 1.12GB on an empty folder. I've turned everything on to show all files that I know of, but can't seem to find the culprit, Any ideas?

Open Internet Explorer go to Tools >Internet Options In the Temporary Internet Files box click on settings. Now adjust how much hard drive space you want to give IE for temp files. Windows will reserve this space on your HD.

I have had it set at 20 megs for some time now. WAY way less than 1.12 GB.

I noticed this ne time while using WinME, and I would assume it is still happening in XP. One day for some reason that escapes me I happened to be paying attention while my AV was scanning the system. I noticed some weird files being scanned...bunches of them in fact. I jotted down the first few directories of the addresses of these files and went hunting them down after the scan. They were all internet related files...files that don't show up even when you select to "show hidden files". I found entire web pages that I hadn't been to in years in there. I used to keep the address of the hidden folder in a notepad note to myself so I could keep it cleaned out, but lost it when WinME crashed one day...

I remember posting about it on another board somewhere...maybe I can find it and copy it to here.

Found it:
C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\CONTENT.IE5

I checked the properties of the XP directory you referenced in your post...it shows 217 files and 5 folders, but when the directory is opened there are no folders shown...

Leads me to think XP is still caching files without telling you...

I sent you a file that might help. Be on the lookout for it.

Other than just setting the disk space to store the temp internet files, didn't you delete all the temporary internet files through the internet option?
