Is it worth to buy the upcoming 9800xt? Or should I buy the 9800pro when the prices go down? I understand the card was not even launched yet, but I want speculations! :)

I'd grab the 9800 Pro when it comes out...chances are that the price will drop and it will be perfectly ripe for the buying.

I would guess no, based on the XT's meagre superiority to the 9800 PRO. Looks like a clockspeed upgrade to me, maybe some optimizations like R300 vs R350 but I doubt even that much if it didn't justify the Radeon 9900 name.

But time will tell.

What about buying 9800 NP instead? I expect price drops also for that version, and now seems that GPU raw power is becoming the bottleneck instead of memory bandwith. An ATI's core overclock very well

Just in case you want to save some additional bucks.

Still looking for a good online retailer in Spain :frown:

Simply put, NO ONE KNOWS FOR SURE.

Wait and see, that's your best bet. By which time everyone here and their uncle, cat, neighbour will have an op-onion.

And that's my op-onion for now.

I would recommend the 9800nonpro. Unless you don't mind spending $75-100 more for roughly 5-10% better performance. It is comparable to a 9700pro, with the benefit of enhanced pixel shaders for use in upcoming DX9 games. -dejavu- At $249, courtesy of Newegg, you can't go wrong.

Hehe, no, the TX is an inexpensive Dell version:
9800XT>9800 Pro>9700 Pro>9800>9700>9800TX>9700TX>9500 Pro>9600 Pro>9800SE>9500>9600>9200>8500>9100>9000.

Damn, I missed a few models, anyone want to help out?

Actually the R9600 > R9500 (don't bet on the mod, that's not realistic)

And the R9200 < than all the one's to the right of it except the R9000 (but the R9000PRO is faster than the R9200).

And you could also add the R8500LE > R8500DV, etc. and you could include all the freakin' nomenclature of the GigaPukes. but I wouldn't make you do that.

Anywhoo, that's my take on it.
