Toshiba laptop
XP Home upgrade v2002 and upgraded w/ SP2
I'm new to XP & laptops too ... so I did something stupid. So sorry for a
little bit long winded...
One small click & got the page from hell virus's, tool bars, etc - all at
once ! 300+registry goodies. AVG took care of most, but MS Anti Spy
blocker must have helped them fill the tank. I followed up with Symantec
manually on missed items and on one that would not go away.
While in Safe mode going through the registry manual cleaning I entered
control panel's Display settings and upped the 640x safe small display to
1024x because the vision is not seeing too well. Didn't think to set it
back when I rebooted - suddenly it wouldn't start in safe mode.
I futzed around in windows trying to regain boot with a small screen
thinking that's probably the no-safe mode culprit... followed MS How-To and
deleted video driver thinking to see if it would start VGA and reload back
to default settings.
And now not only can I not do safe mode, I can't see anything once past
post starting regular windows. Windows loads, network connects, MSN beeps
on a w98org box here, a minute later blue screen says to reload video
from safe shows error on trid3dm.sys video driver..
Have cleaned out restore points from the hdd properties/tools right after
saving one immeaditly folling when it became virus free but looks like
the uninstall on the vid driver must have loaded another restore and its not
working to get me back in windows with video. Tried boot from winXPhome
upgrade CD and it won't run install or really doesnt seem to do much,,, copy
one file at a time... maybe i could copy trid2dm.sys to folder if I knew
path but not sure if that will bail me out.
