Recently my 128mb Ti4200 broke down so I sent it back since it was under warranty. However, this card has been discontinued now and they don't seem to have any other Ti4200's available. They have offered me a different card, being a FX5200. I've read the benchmarks but I'm still a little unsure.

Which card is the best out of:
- 128M Abit Ti4200 x8 +TV+DVI

AND

- 128Mb Gainward (4769) FX PowerPack! Pro/760 XP "Golden Sample" (FX5200 Ultra)

Thanks for all your help. :)

i agree... if they say all they can give u is a 5200 then say give me a 5600 or refund of how much you paid for the 4200... its under warranty so they have to replace it with something equal or better.

yes a 5600 i *might* possibly accept, because of the fact that it can do ansio filtering faster

but the 5600 has less raw power, so you might want to consider that as well.

To replace a 4200 with a 5200 is like replacing a Corvette with a Ford Pinto.

Get at least a 5600 dude.

Another vote for "get my money back"!

At that time, I can not recomend and FX card at all. Invest money on ATI 9600Pro if they return to you and can spend some additional $. And if you plan to play some mondern games ... if not, get a new Ti4200.

NEVER A FX ON YOUR SYSTEM!

Still looking for a good online retailer in Spain :frown:

shut up FX RULES ;)

this is what u do, tell gainward that FX5200 sux arse and u want a FX5900 to replace the Ti4200. You never know, they might do it :D otherwise their 5600Ultra is an awesome card too :D argue with them, they can't do anything to u? if u argue enough, they'll give it to you.

Cheers for your responses. I thought as much looking at the benchmarks but it's always good to get it confirmed. I may just spend a little more on top and get the 9600 Pro as suggested.

Well the warranty is with the vendor and not the actual manufacturer. The original card was an Abit Ti4200, they're offering me this Gainward as a replacement. I have replied telling them I'm not having the card they're offering and awaiting their response. I will see what they have to offer again first, then I'll plead my case further.

Get your money back or get the 5600 and sell it on ebay. Then go out and buy yourself a real videocard. Don't get a GeForceFX.

hm..benchmark shows that fx5200 would perform almost the same as a Radeon8500/GF3 in DX8..basically, it's a dx8 card, for dx8, GF4Ti rules...and since fx5200 is simply too weak for rendering dx9.. i would say pay a little more and get a fx5600Ultra..but you should be able to get fx5600u no? since Ti4200 and fx5600u are both mainstreamproducts of nvidia.
anyway, or if you can, return it and get a Radeon9600Pro
