Kev and I have been discussing this idea and have emailed Sean about
it. The problem seems to be that Sean is just totally incommunicado
as of late. Kev's worked with Sean before (Kev wrote the 5200 and the
short-lived Colecovision multicart menus for him) so it's not like
this isn't within the realm of possibility. A stumbling block for
doing this on our own is that Sean has invested the money to make the
molds for the cart cases and he is the sole source (and theres at
least one seller on the web but they get them from him). It makes no
sense to reinvent the wheel for new cases.
I think there's going to be a shortage of those cases and from what
I've gleaned of your Vecflsah in-progress posts that the the project
was held up a bit until the cases arrived. Who knows what other
homebrew projects will be affected because of this. Sure, we can use
the modified intellivision cart cases but that means we have to
cannibalize them and they just don't feel like a Vectrex cart, if you
know what I mean.
Kev also presented the idea to the group of custom made multicarts
with your choice of homebrews and a corresponding royalty paid to the
authors of those games. He didn't get a lot of response so we've
taken that as a sign they people just aren't interested (both
consumers and authors). Perhaps the Vecflash now fills that same
niche and a new multicart would be a duplication of effort. Another
fact is that a few years ago Sean stated that he'd sold well over 1000
Vectrex multicarts. Thats a *lot* for such a relatively small
community and maybe we've reached some level of saturation.
