which manufactuers (msi, asus, winfast, so on) make video cards with DVI, VGA, tv tuner, vivo.

i dont really care on the gpu (nvidia or ati)

Well all the makers you listed are nV and they don't have TV tuners. Only ATI's AllInWonder series comes with a built-in TV tuner. There ya go.

And I would recommend the R9600Pro version as it looks like a good all 'rounder.

TheGreatGrapeApe is right, the All-in-wonder ATI Radeon cards are perfect for your needs. But the 9600 version is quite expensive and since you don't care about the GPU, the 9000 version might be the cheaper choice...

Cod1f1ed, when he says he doesn't care on the GPU I think he meant the GPU maker (or that was my impression) not the power of it. But you are right for anyone who doesn't need gaming power the AWI-R9000 is good enough, for serious gaming power the R9800 of course. But I tend to think the R9600 offers so much and in so many areas, it's a pretty solid choice for most people. Truely an All-'Rounder IMO.

Ok, I might have misinterpreted that.

I agree the 9600 is the best all-rounder. Just ordered mine a few days ago! Besides great performance for a good price, I also like that it's very cool and thus the fan doesn't make much noise.

thanks for the replies guys

i guess ati is the only solution atm...

which variations does ati make these AIW cards? so far its the 9000, 9600 and 9800.

the main reason im asking this is because im jumping on the SFF boat (small form factor) and thought it would be usefull to have a tv-tuner. the quietness of the fan would be a bonus and i think someone has already mentioned these cards are quite, which is good to know.

thanks again

o and forgot to ask, is it ONLY ati that make the AIW cards? that is do other manufactuers using the ati gpu also make AIW variations?

To the nest of my knowledge only ATI makes the AIW (but there may be other variants beyond N.Amer. shores).

Here's a Link to ATI's AIW page.

The models are;

AIW 128PRO - Very, Very OLD version. Limited features, only if you want a multimedia box, and even then only the AGP 32mb version. I had the 16mb PCI version, worked ok, but died under heavy graphics loads, and heavy DIVX and such loads that need hardware asistance (even on powerful procs).

AIW 7500 - low end 3D solution, but has most of the connectors, for the barest of bones. (OLD Tech)

AIW VE - PCI solution with same basic core as the 7500, mainly for those without AGP.

AIW 8500DV (64mb) and 8500-128MB - Last generation's top of the line, lacks some of newer features and power. Had lower Clock speeds and especially memory speeds than the regular 8500s and 8500LE.
(I had a DV, it was 'Good')

AIW 9000PRO - Slightly newer technology (like Fullstream/VideoSmoothing), for people less interested in gaming. Solid entry level card.

AIW 9600Pro - DX9 compliant card based on Full speed R9600P core. Has the exclusive features of FM radio, and Dual VGA outputs (all other AIW have just one monitor port (usually DVI), although you can use the TV as an out too. The newer remote appers here exclusively so far too. Truely a well rounded card that can handle games and the multimedia stuff it's geared for.

AIW 9700PRO/9700 - First half of the year's top of the LINE model. Has all the power of a regular R9700/R9700Pro. For people who really have to have top quality video, however it has been replaced by the king..

AIW R9800Pro - Has all of the features of the R9700 version, lacks the added features of the R9600P version, but has the most powerful VPU on the planet and will play games at the same level as any other Stock R9800Pro - 128mb version (there is no 256 DDRII version that I know of). Truely for people who want to get the drop on R9700P and FX5900 owners in games. IMO, not worth the extra coin, but some people gotta have it all.

That's how I see it.

Good luck. I still say the R9600P is the best choice, especially if you are going with a small-box solution, as the R9700 and R9800 version will likely over-tax your PSU (Power Supply). But if you are not gaming then the R9000 should do fine, even for very casual gaming (med. res. no AA/AF).

wow thanks for the summary

the 9600pro does seem like the ideal choice... is the remote included or is it an optional accessory?

i do plan to play some games... i'll probably match the video with a 3.0ghz p4 running at 800mhz when the technology eventually catches up to the SFF. it'll be my mini beast machine hehe

also when was the AIW version of the 9600pro released? im having a hard time finding it in local markets (australia)

Remote is included (in all but the 7500 I think [maybe VE too]), and the R9600P does play games at reasonable rate. So you should be 'OK' even in games like HL2 and D]|[.

Once again, best of luck!

cleeve

Illustrious
Remote's not included with the VE, to the best of my knowledge.

I believe they gave you one with the VE if you bought it on the Ati website the first couple weeks it was offered, though.

Forget about a AIW in SFF, you'll never see that!!

HUH?

Mind explaining that? I've seen a bunch of them with it, even ready-made ones. Are you confusing on-board with add-in?

Really you need to explain that as it's SOOOoooo off the mark.

BTW, check out THG's review of IDF and see hat ATI themselves have an AIWR9600P on display inside a Shuttle SFF PC.

Sorry my bad, I confused the SSF with the LP (low profile)
form factor.

I just notice from one of TKS' posts that HIS also appears to make the AIW R9800Pro.

As for the availibility of the AIW R9600P, yeah there's nothing on ATI's website. You may have to check out some e-tailers. It should arrive soon if not already be in selected stores.
