I got the BBATI non pro. Bummer it had the Infineon memory so I can't flash the bios to 9800 pro. But the system detected it as a 9800pro. I am using the Omega 3.6 cats. Maybe thats why. The default clocks were at 324 core 290 mem. Got it overclocked to 391 core 324 mem. So it's basically a 9800 pro now. 3Dmark03 5851. Not bad for stock cooling. I almost bought a Vantek copper cooling kit last night. I'm still not sure if I want to modify the card. Any of you guys think it will be worth putting a new GPU heat sink and fan and ram sinks? If I only get 10 megaherts I don't think it's worth it.

Nice overclock! If you'r thinking about replacing the stock cooler, don't bother with the vantec. Get the zalman heatpipe cooler and enjoy upto 460mhz gpu (depends on voltage and each gpu though). Only thing is the zalman doesnt have enough room for big ramsinks...

remember, the 9800 non-pro runs at lower voltage than 9800pro that's the only reason, and i'm a little too chicken to do voltage mod.

If you keep it running like this your card will die within 3 months. Always run 10mhz lower than its max at least. So if you're stable right now, get new cooling and if it could do 400/335 i would just keep it at what it's at now. Because any higher would result in permanently dammaging the card. I could get my 9800pro running at 490/385 without artifacts but right now i'm keeping it at 460/375 because i don't really need the extra mhz, and this way my card lives longer.

You really think it could damage the card? I could run it at 400 core but I would get a speckling effect in the water in the nature demo. Like little dots flickering in the water. Also noticed it in the pixel shader demo with the elephants. I could run the memory at 330 but would get random artifacts that looked like shattered glass. I tried 350 and that was a mistake. Major corruption as soon as I started the demo. I haven't upped the voltage on my AGP. I guess I will knock both of them down 10 mgz for now.

I don't know about that Zalman cooler. Looks like it weighs a ton. Kinda expensive too. Defeats my cheapness in getting the non pro heh.

What is the best cooler besides the Zalman? Or would it be better to pick up a copper CPU cooler and modify it?

Also, is there a utility or somthing that I can tell what temps my video card is at?

Thanks

only thing you have to worry about from overclocking is heat

it does reduce life , but how long are you going to hvae that card, 5 years?

your 3 month death is hihgly overexaggerated

I dont think it does you any good to run your core that high when your memory will only do 324. I would dial that back to 380 or 370 even.

theres important things that benifit from a high core

bump mapping
geometry
pixel shading
