My geforce3ti500 just burned up, the fan stopped spinning and the heat seems to have ruined the card. So i went out and bought a 5600ultra and so far i am really happy with it. I was looking at a 9600pro because it was cheaper than the 5600ultra. Anyway i found a 5600ultra mismarked to 169.99 so i just had to get it, it also came bundled with the full version of splinter cell, the others on the shelf were 249 bucks so i had to get it. Anyway i am wondering if it is the flip chip kind or the old one. How can i tell, i know the FC variety benchmarks a lot better and am hoping this is what i have. Its a PNY verto the part number is vcgfx56uapb. Anyone have an idea?

The quickest way to find out is to check what the deault/stock core/mem. speeds are (400/400[800] for the FC/REV.2 version). However since it was on sale I would expect it's not the Rev. 2, but instead R-1.

Of course you could remove the HSF assembly and check if your THAT concerned.

You could always e-mail the manufacturer too.

It wasnt on sale it was mismarked lol! but it is indeed a rev 2 400/800. Thats too bad though because the card was a pos. It ran well, but that wasnt the problem. I guess that chipset has some sort sort of "smart " fan on it and only kicks in when it is supposedly needed. Well needless to say it didnt kick in until the thing overheated and locked up my comp. I was voodoo fan and nvidia ran them out of business, I became a nvidia fan but with this current card and the incredibly poor dx9 performance of the fx series I have moved on to ATI. I brought the card back and got a 9600pro and it seems really nice so far. But damn that pissed me off when i realised the 5600's fan was supposed to do that. I want a fan that runs all the time, I dont give a [-peep-] if it sounds like a 747, make it cold and im happy!

Well, I've enjoyed mine sofar. It does very well by me, and mine Overclcoks very well ontop of that.

I hope the change goes smooth for ya. Rememeber to wipeout all traces of the nV drviers before installing the ATI, they have a bad habit of being unwanted stowaways in your system.

Enjoy!
