ATI to put all their EGG-heads in one basket.

In an attempt to make advanacements in the Workstation market (in hopes of the FireGLs beating the Quadros), ATI has decided to move their GL driver team from Europe (Germany) to Canada. To try and pool their resources in an attempt to capitalize on their successes in the gaming/hardware market.

Hope it helps...well, they've already cornered the 'affordable' performance side of the workstation market...but if they keep succeeding...Nvidia will fall pretty hard.

Nvidia, the way it's meant to be benchmarked.

Captain Obvious thinks this is...well.. the most Obvious choice!

The OpenGL performance of ATi products has trailed Nvidia for some time now, both in the professional scene and with games.

Captain Obvious wonders if the upcomming Catylist 3.8's contain significant OpenGL tweaks?

If they overtake the FX3000, I'm gonna enjoy toasting Flamethrower on a frying pan!

Why doesn't that surprise me?

Seriously I think there is a chance, but it will take some HONEST hard work, as the Quadros are a solid line as well as good drivers. PNY has always made a very good quality product and was one of the makers I never sold-short. They are the Hercules of the nV world IMO.

In anycase, I just hope that it would help my R9600P should I decide to toss it into my 'video editing' rig, after a softGL mod.

Well, any results from this will be at LEAST 9 mths off IMO. But I could be very wrong.

Dude, I just feel VERY sorry for those guys moving from Munich to Thornhill/Toronto. Talk about going from a land of creativity (or at least a good club scene) to Dullsville (ButtonVille). Hopefully they get enough enertainment from work, or get paid enough to fly to the US to party once a month.

It makes sense to me, but I'm surprised they didn't move them to their Cali. branch. PErhaps they think the occasional snowfall would make them less homesick.

A friend from the Univ. is applying to work with them next year. He's an Electrical Engineer with a Physics degree as well, so who knows, maybe I'll end up with a guy on the inside by this time next year.
