Yeah, I asked this in the CPU forum but nobody answered. Should have known better; those guys gon't know $hit...

Does anyone here know FOR SURE if an Athlon MP 2600+ will work in a plain consumer motherboard? (A crappy K7S5A)

The mobo can take regular athlons up to 2600+ with the 266mhz FSB, so I think it should work...

Anybody know for sure though?

And by the way, do Athlon MP's offer any benefits like a larger cache? If memory serves, they don't, but you guys would know.

Thanks fellas,

Yes i will work on a regular motherboard. The rverse is the problem. The only difference is the L5 bridge (nickle painted in my case). I am running dual XP1800+ XPs modded to MPs.

However that is the ONLY difference and a SINGLE MP should have no trouble on a single socket MOBO. I haven' tried it, and if it didn't involve removing the HHSF off 2 machines I'd plop one into my gaming rig to try for you. However I don't think there is ANY problem, check this;

From what I remember there should be no problem using them. You can check AMD for sure, there knowledge base doesn't mention conflicts it just say use a in a and b in b to ensure proper funtionality, etc.

Hope that helps.

Thanks man!

That's what I suspected but wanted a second opinion.

266fsb AthlonXP's are real hard to find, my board won't take 333fsb CPUs. But I have a line on an AthlonMP 2600+... wanted to get an opinion before buying.

Don't worry though, I won't blame you if it screws up. :)
