This article also has confirmed that the Duo cards will be EXTREMELY expensive. Maybe the single Volari cards will be pretty good, who knows? But then again, maybe that'd be like getting a Voodoo 4 instead of a Voodoo 5 5500.

I have a degree of enthusiasm also. I think THG said that the single Volari cards are supposed to compete with the radeon 9800 Pro cards. If that is the case, then XGI could be a company known for pushing 3D performance to the next level for this year. Some Gamer's will pay the $600 or more (???) price tag on the Volari Duo, simply because it might be the fastest solution money can buy. Nobody knows how well they will perform yet, but if they are really awesome performance, and an awesome price, I might pick one up in a few months or a year if they are the best bang for buck card around. But again, all this is ludicrous speculation on my part & perhaps wishful thinking as well. But, I still have faith that the Volari will be a worthwhile product. I don't know why I got this gut feeling this time around. I've never been interested in anything that Trident or SIS has produced outside of a couple motherboard chipsets here and there.

We sar gonna see how NV40 gonna do and what Volari comes up with and I'll blow a lot of money on the winner- more than $600 on the vid card if necessary.

Flame but what if the wiener, err winner is the R420/R423?
Then watcha gonna do?

HEhe. I had a feeling that'd be the answer.

Ah well I'm sure the NV40 will do well by you and others. I MAY or may not be faster/slower than the others, but it will likely be competitive, so I think you'll have SOMETHING to show for yourself. But don't wait TOO long, some nice stuff might pass you by.

Here's to hoping that the NV40 will bring nV back into the good graces of it's fans (althoug it'll take a little more work for me [annoyed by their extra-curricular activities]).
I'm glad that there's potential a 3rd player in the market considering the apparent departure of Matrox.

Maybe it'll be an XGI V9 for you. A nice change of pace. We'll see when the next-gens hit stores / reviews marking benches. I'd love to see you become a Volari fan, that would be almost as cool (but more likely) as you becoming a FanATIc.

I'm actually rooting for Volari (we need to come up with an insulting term for their fans too now...). I figure the longer I wait the more special the upgrade feels since 3 years stuck with a P200 and 2MB Cirrus Logic made my upgrade seem insane hehe.

i wonder how dual graphics processing will work, hmm..
could be:
1. 1 chip will render the top half of the frame, the other will render lower half (sounds unefficient)

2. Scan line - line per line processing for each gpu's (looks more efficient the the first one)

3. Frame by frame - 1st frame will be rendered by gpu1, then the second frame will be rendered by gpu2, vice versa cont...

That's a good question, I was wondering the same thing myself.

Rememember how the Vooodoo2 could do only 800x600 with a single card, but if you added another one, you could go to the very high-res of 1024x768? I wonder if the Duo Volari will be capable of higher resolutions that the single Volari can't handle, just like the good 'ol Voodoo2.
