LARS did a very good job this time around, with lots of tests and lots of info. And a nice aside from Thomas about ASUS' current situation/decision (I agree wholeheartedly). I wonder if the VGA Buyer's guid would still give kudos to the FX5600 line.

LOL, if the 9500P can beat the 5900U, can the 8500P beat the 5800U? hehe.

wow, thanks for posting. lotsa reviews.

doesn't matter to me a ton though, I'm getting the 9800pro b/c the price is already dropping. Add ramsinks, slap in a slot cooler, I'll have XT performances for a lot less $$$.

Crash, I might be able to swap my R9000NP for an FX5800U and turn it into a Quadro.

If u gonna do ogl, the FX/ quadro r the way to go!
Hmm, 5 extra FPS for an XT...is it really worth it over a 9800P? Admiral Flame says no. Mwahah, I rule Captain Obvious.

Flame well I'm thinking about doing more MAYA come winter (on the days I can't ski and there's nothing on, and all of y'all are borin me  ). My video editing and movie making sorta came to a halt over the summer due to alot of activity. We'll see.

I still think the R9000 does things just fine for now and the R9600P will be ok for later. I'd like A Quadro or FireGL, but decided I really don't need one, as much as it would be 'nice'.

OK finally read them all (only took 1 hours after arriving home!

So far I think the THG , [H] , and Nordic hardware reviews are the best with some good screenies and a fair bit of detail.

One of the most interesting interesting things I noticed was the effect of the XT for high resolution and large AA/AF (like at [H] in the TR-AoD benchmark).

Also it was interesting in the Bjorn3D article that they mention a Vouvher for HL2 (I never though about that as being the HL2 bundle). That would kinda suck for people waiting for HL2. I would personally prefer a buggy version now, and a voucher for a downloadable upgrade/replacement.
A voucher for future use kind SUX IMO.

Anywhoo, my general impression, not much improvement, but a worthy addition if you are Starting from scratch and just want to build a killer rig. Whether or not it is worth buying now instead of waiting for thr R420/NV40 depends more on when those bad boys hit shelves, and no one seems sure about when that will be.

I would still like to see some benchies with the R9600XT, not just a description. I have a feeling I know what they will be like, but it would still be nice to see (especially if someone has a similar setup to mine.

Well that's just my 2 frames worth.

P.S. I'm also very thankful to [H] for telling me how to enable GOD mode in the XIII demo. Gotta try that later.

I don't understand why this card is getting as much attention as it is getting now. All it is is a rearranged 9800 Pro clocked a bit higher, not even a lot higher, but just a little higher. The clock speeds don't even come out to nice even numbers (though that doesn't matter its more of presentability.)
I do agree with one thing ATI is doing, they are marketing it as the 9800 XT so as no one will buy it hoping it will be a lot better than it's brother the 9800 Pro. I remember the fiasco with the 8500, 9000, 9100 and 9200 which I am still confused about now.

i agree, getting a 9800pro and modding it to be even better than the xt is the way to go, especially with the dropping prices. but, do you think with the modified chip architecture for better heat dissipation that the xt could be clocked faster with the same cooling mechanisms?

btw, here's a couple more oxymorons for ur sig if you want them: military intelligence/boneless ribs

Really depends how complex things are gonna get with you. If you're gonna do very complex things, a standard gaming card will do. Some time before Maya had issues with ga,ming cards from Ati...dunno if that's fixed.

I don't know, the Tom's HW review said the chip got very hot, and the R9800pro's 128megs of ram is a lot easier to cool/OC than the R9800XT's 256.

Remember, they also mentioned the shoddy attachment of the cooler to the card? I'd prefer to install ram sinks myself than have pre-assembled ones. That's the main point, the GPU cooler on the R9800pro is sufficient, just slap on the ram sinks and XT numbers will be in reach, I'll personally talk about how it goes b/c I'm getting a R9800pro in around 2 weeks (my first ATI card for 4 years!).

lol, yeah, forgot that the XT got pretty hot, i forget little details like that when i read something...anyway, good luck with the pro, wish i could get one to replace my Ti4200 (sure, it's fast enough for UT2003 and the other games i play, but i've learned to hate nVidia--a lot).

I think you should add "Hot black girls" to your list cooltek. (They're not completely non-existant, but its like 1 out of 1000, maybe even 1/10000). OUCH HARDCORE!!! Lol. Just my personal opinion:)

Flame, I'm still just playing with MAYA. It does work ok on the R9000NP, but it would be nice to try it with a real workstation card to fill my AGP-PRO slot.

In anycase, I'm not really worried, no one's paying me for this, and if it gets TOO annoying I'll either get a cheap FireGL from the Univ.; or a Quadro, or a Wildcat from one of the local dealers (I'd love to find a Wildcat IV on sale at used computer store).

But for now my tinkering will be sufficed with what I've got, but ohh the thought of something bigger/better is always nice. But considering I just ate my wallet for tuition and a few other items, I'm not willing to upgrade right now, especially after having seen the new Canon Rebel Digital at the local camera shop.

*Yawns*
I'm relatively unimpressed with the limited performance gain of the 9800XT. Considering that the good 'ol 9700 has a whole year of age on its name with somewhat similar performance, the 9800 XT really isn't all that Groundbreaking. I'd expect a bigger improvement after a whole year, but I guess there is really no good reason to blame ATi considering there is no one currently pushing them to be more competive than they already are. Heck, I owned a bussiness and no one could outclass my product, I would not have as much of a reason to push new technology either. I would milk a cash cow for all that it's worth. Well maybe things will get interesting this christmas with the R420 & NV40, maybe the Volari cards too! :)

Yeah you edited your last statement and as well you should, kinda extreme. If anyone tells me that Beyonce Knowles isn't hot though...

No it was just a repeat and I couldn't delete it for some reason. Beyonce is pretty hot, but like I said, one out of a thousand:)
Halle Barry is not hot though, way overrated.
The most hot black chicks I've seen have been extras in rap videos.

Lol, theres alot of hot azns, rarer than whites/latinos but they're there, and certainly more populous than blacks. Too bad:) Why do you think almost all black men are attracted (not ONLY) to white women, but not all white men are (in fact I'd say MOST aren't) attracted to black women? Huh, huh?! PROOF!

Hey whatever's your thing. Some like their women black as night, or white as a baby's ass, other are chubby-chasers, there's MILF Hunters...

But anyway, back to video cards (lol!)...

Yeah, it's not a major diff./improvement. But it is something.

It's partially a PR move IMO. Always launching something. I think it's also a release to do things like take the FX5900s out of Alienware and other 'gaming' maker's rigs.

The distance the XT puts between it and the non-pro does give it a bit more of an advantage, but it's really all about the 'GOTTA BE #1' market really. I'm more interested in the R9600XT and what its OC range is and the Catlyst 3.8 driver options (like Overdrive) that are likely bundled with the cards.

I think it's really what most of us came to expect in the last few days/weeks.

I'd still buy one if I was building a gaming system from scratch to dominate others with top-end rigs. But since most of my friends are still running 1-2 years old hardware I have no motivation, especially since the R9600P handles everything I throw at it (except Mozilla 1.5b BETA!  )

I think these reviews also give more and more people the opportunity to see the write-ups about nV's woes. Which may also have been part of the point.

I've noticed similar trends like that also. Even though I'm white, I tend to normally go for non-white chicks. But some reason, I haven't felt attracted to African women nearly as often as I have felt attracted to women of other cultures. I hope this statement hasn't offend any black members of the forum. I have several black friends. (Some of them are girls too.) (So, I'm NOT trying to be prejudice under any circumstance if anyone thinks so.)
