Anand R9800XT review got Lost in the bunch (NV38!)

Sure you're saying, WTF, another R9800XT review?

However, THIS one has the FXs running the new DET 52.14 drivers AND an NV38/FX5950. So you might want to take a look.

I wish there were some IQ comparisons, but at least we know what to expect from just FPS (which may be the only improvement).

And even still I feel pretty good about my R9600P.

Sorry it took so long to get this on the forum but it was a long day at work with few gaps.

MS Flight simulator 2004 -
It seems like the ATI cards want to go further but they are just being held back by the rest of the system

Unreal 2003 -
When we flip the filter switch, the 9800 XT drops the least in frame rate, and takes a clear lead over NV38 and the 9800 Pro

Halo -
This benchmark clearly lets the 9800XT stretch its legs a little and pull away from the pack Of course

Homeworld 2 -
NVIDIA takes this test hands down

Those are quotes from the review of the 4 games that most people will be bothered about. So the new drivers and card from Nvidea are better in homeworld, but suffer in most of the other games.

But we all know the low I.Q of the det 5* drivers that are used in this review, and they didn't even bother to disprove this....

I found this on the discussion page.

Yes Anand really is using a 2.8GHz Prescott. =)

#11 Doom3 is OpenGL. I dont know where you got this directx 8 business. Are you bashing AT because NVIDIA scored poorly, or because ATI scored well?

And HomeWorld 2 is really a graphical update over HomeWorld, the gameplay is basically the same. :frown:

If he´s really using a Prescott then it´s a damn slow system when I compare it with the 3.2GHz standard System I used (X2, Aquamark3).

IF they were using a Prescott, how come suddenly the current motherboards support it?
I thought they wouldn't.

And boy that is weird, having two writers in the same forum. Didn't know David was reading this!

Yeah that's another thing that surprises me. They can't go against Intel like that. Hell, since when did the new Det 52s come out and they could bench unreleased stuff before the public? Where are the benchmarking ethics?

Take a look at the review.....anand has advertising links on lots of words thruout the review....The tells me that they are on the payroll. Nvidia MUST do anything they can to stay alive. Right now they must discredit ATI, INTEL, MICROSOFT, maybe even AMD. They got tons of cash and just as ATI spent wisely on HL2, Nvidia's marketing payroll will include anyone who bashes ATI and their partners.

The thing is Anand should have journalistic integrity. Obviously, they do-not.

There is a problem with your comment... So why Anand do not recommend nVidia if they are on the nVidia side?

They clearly state at the end of the article that ATI is the best choice right now.

But, I agree that should have put a few words about IQ with Det 52.14. Because, if 52.14 are not better in term of IQ than 51.75, it's not worth the time and effort to compare GPU.

I wish a review site will bench ATI vs nVidia at equal IQ. They would have to turn down IQ in the ATI Control panel to meet the nVidia IQ! This would be funny!

Anandtech are not on the payroll for anyone - they get commission on purchases made by referals, and they link to every product in the review so they aren't favouring anyone.

um...well... if nvidia used anand as an avenue to release biased benchmarks then that influences potential buyers. That is an advantage for nvidia and trust me.....they pay for that either thru invoices directly but most likely but rewards such as quicker reference boards for review or usage of logos or links. All these things leads to increased readers to their site and increased revenues....a parntership.
That is why they no longer have journalistic integrity.
