This is an example of english text converted to SpeakJet phoneme codes.

I used the following text for input:
"this is a sample of t t s 2 56 i c text to speech ic from speechchips
dot com"

If tts256 was not spaced out as shown, it would have been pronounced as
"ts twohundredfifty six". IC would have been "ick".

....I've just noticed its not liking 2 t's together (i.e. 'text to'), can
this be cured ?

Yes, I can send you one but I want just a little more time to get the
flow control in.

hmmm... I've listened to it over and over again but I don't hear the
problem. I do hear a little too much action around the x in text
(te"exs"ta to). Is that what you are referring to?

It is possible to adjust the rules but it can be complicated to
determine all the side effects. For example, adjusting one sound can
make it work perfectly in one usage of the rule but can utterly ruin 20
other words in another usage of the same rule. It cases like that, I
tend to try and find the most acceptable usage in both instances. I
simple don't have any room for addiational rules at this point.

Also, if that like tick bothered you, you're going to hate the way it
pronounces some other words. I didn't specifically choose that text
string to sound great. I just came up with it off the top of my head
and it worked pretty well. I can find plenty of words the TTS256
mangles. The goal here is 90%-95% correct pronunciation.

I don't think the TTS256 will be a great solution for reading tons of
content (daily news, Shakespeare or the bible). PC based text to
speech applications are always going to be better since they have more
than 16k to hold the rule set. The TTS256 will help in embedded
applications where you want to add speech prompts. For example, it's
great for adding read outs such as, "the nearest object is 1.23 meters
away" or "Self destruct in 10 seconds".

That's probably it

Activated and basic is recognizable but not great however in context, I
don't anyone would have trouble understanding the words.

Correct and discover are right on.

Not too bad at all, I'm sure it'd only take a bit of 'creative spelling' to
get them spot on.

It's a hell of a lot easier than making words from scratch.

BTW is there a pitch / speed option ?

I know with early software speech synths, this helped with clarity somewhat

Can you Email me the pinout of the chip (PIC) i.e. which port for serial in
etc, I want to get started on the Vox TTS board.

Thanks...

All the normal SpeakJet commands can be used to alter pitch and speech.
I haven't started docs yet but I will have something this week.
