fx5200 slower than Radeon 9000 pro

3dmark2001 ===> ONLY 4600 marks...very disappointed.

my other computer spec is running 7600 marks AS FOLLOWS :
1 AMD XP 2000+ #
2 INNO RADEON 9000 PRO WITH 64 MB RAM #
3 2 THE MAX 8k5a2 MOTHERBROAD
4 256 M RAM PC 2700 #
BTW, SAME OS WIN XP !!


IN MY MIND # IS NOT AS FAST AS THE FIRST ONE, DON'T KNOW WHY ????the one with 3Dmark 2001 = 4600 marks is also using Direct X 9.0
whilst the one with 7600 marks is using Direct x 8.0

Why newer model newer version of direct x with less marks >??

1. Direct x version doesnt make a difference in term of performance, it is only a requirement to run games.

2. That fx5200 is using 64bit memory interface compare to the radeon9000 with 128bit(properly), OF COURSE the 64bit gonna suck coz it can only move half of the amount 9000 is capable(provided they both using same memory speed) at same time!

3. Your fx5200 appear to be fast is properly due to the fact that Nvidia's driver reduces quality to gain performance...

4. Anything over 64mb RAM in both cards are useless. :tongue:

On the xp2500 system, the Radeon should give you 9000+. It is a good low end video card. The 5200 is not very expensive.

For the poor showing that the FX5200 provides, I would say it <i>very</i> expensive. In fact in the HL2 price/performance evaluation the 5900 actually had the 5200 beat "value-wise" Neither of those FX cards have a good value though as we all know.


My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

Just take that 5200 back. The ony FX card worth getting is the 5900, just have to tolerate c-130 aircraft noise and the nightmare of DX9 games this winter.
