Ah, I missed that part. It would be due to chipset incompatability most likely. These VIA chipsets were notorious for AGP problems. They did however use the 9700 Pro on the BX, with supports only AGP 1.0
Intel's best chipset ever: Epox EP-BX7+ with 440BX and Socket 370.
And piii_man is running a 9500 on his old Slot 1 AGP 1.0 platform.
The only mainstream cards I know of that're not AGP 1.0 compliant is the 9600 series.
