I just bought a 9800pro. I use Powerstrip 3.4 view the card's clock. I find the core/memory clock is 337/317.Why?

Well, you should be 380/340 if it's a 9800 PRO.

Are you sure it isn't a PRO "lite" or non-pro, or one of those other shite versions?

Well, regardless... your core should easily clock to 380. As far as your memory though, depending on the type it is it may or may not make the 23 Mhz jump to 340.

At those speeds, I'd return it anyway. Unless you got it used for really cheap.

A. make sure its really a "pro" pro.
B. increase the speeds to what they should be, 380 core, 340 mem.

could be a wrong bios on there.
when i flashed the bios on my old r9700pro the default speeds ended up being 303/303 for some reason.

just flash it to the ati 9800pro bios and you'll get the clocks your supposed to and get rid of that disgraceful powercolor bios to ease your mind.
PM if you need some assistance. I recently turned my sapphire 9800NP (with infineon memory, I'm the only one known that has done so yet anywhere online) into a Pro.

BTW: Powercolor are among the best for memory overclocking
No, indeed they are NOT!

As for the original post, take a look at this Overclocking segment by [H] in their Powercolor R9800Pro review.

Seems like it's not that uncommon, and it's something they were doin with heir original R9700'pro' cards which were clocked at non-pro speeds. Those cards eventually were called R9700-GOLD. Don't expect much out of the card. [H] didn't get much either.
