If you have been snooping around in our forums you might have noticed that Detonator drivers 52.13 have leaked onto the web yesterday and they surely are for real. However, these drivers are NOT SAFE to use as far as I'm concerned !

As part of our procedure before making a driver life (virus/trojan checking and testing the actual driver) I ran some tests on them with a 5900 Ultra. The minute a Direct3D scene is rendered the active fan will stop spinning. The game then exits with an error-code from NVIDIA 'Sentinel error - and something with power'.

This bug might be very card specific, it can damage your graphics card. I'll do some more testing in the next hour to rule out it isn't a faulty cable or something isolated on our end.
Wait until the official release if you can.

Good advice. But I guess a "preview" by a website wouldn't hurt.

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

I've just been looking at what the [H] guys had to say about the new det 52's. OMG what a bunch of moaning tw@'s! Doesn't anyone know how to have a good conversation about things anymore?

Facts are:
Nvidia + ATI get caught cheating
ATI admits it but NV doesn't
ATI has better results in HL2 benchmark and some other games.
NV tries to get performance back with those dodgy 51 dets but has image quality problems.
NV fix issue (or so it seems) and now has good performance in games and good I.Q (or so it seems).

Now we are back at square one with all the fanb0ys getting their handbags out and screaming conspiracy!!!!

I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the show....

It's not as cut and dry as that, speeduk.

I think what puts people off about Nvidia is that they scream "Were not cheating!" while their driver developers continually release pathetic drivers that sacrifice image quality for performance.

That is a fact as well, and they've proven it by destroying the IQ in aquamark just for benchmark scores sake with the last Detonators.

That is why Nvidia is taking it up the a$$ as far as PR is concerned. It's really their own stupid fault... and until they learn to play by the rules and stop giving the finger to their customers, people are going to have this opinion of them.

I hope they *DO* smarten up. If you can post a link to the new Det review you're speaking of, I'd love to see it.

If they have finally stopped exchanging IQ for framerates, it's their first step towards credibility again.

The review is linked in another thread in this section named God blessed Nvidia or something similar.

Yeah, anandtech did a review using beta driver. Although it looks promising i still cant put my trust back to Nvidia consider their recent acts and their hideous record on getting drivers WHQLed...

Are you talking about <A HREF="http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1896" target="_new"> this very long article</A>?

This is new, the second part. It seems developers have finally found a way to improve performance without killing IQ. ATI is still ahead of Nvidia, but they are on the right way. The secret, as Anandtech says, are probably compile code the way FX series like. If they success, at least there will be more competition (and that's always good for us  )
