I have few files on a 128 MB my Flash memory stick. It won't allow me to ad
or remove files from it.

It says: Drive can't be written on. Please, remove write protection.

According to problem solver there is nothing wrong with the memory stick, or
HUBs. Memory stick's on utility program won't allow me to format it. Could it
be so that it is jus broken (it's only 4 weeks old)?

What brand are you using? The one's I use have a small slide
switch on the side that provides write protection. It show's a
closed and open lock on each side.

Is there a little switch on the memory stick to lock and unlock it?

My USB MP3 player had a Hold switch, that prevented anything from happening when a button was pressed during playback, but I found out that it also prevented me writing files to the stick. When I unlocked the stick, everything worked fine.

Hope this helps anyone who has an issue with their MP3 player.

If there is no switch for write protection on your memory stick then try to format it in Win XP. If you get an error saying unable to format then chances are that you have a virus on your memory stick that is preventing access to it except for read. There are antivirus softwares that remove this. However if you have access to a linux OS, simply insert this memory stick and once mounted you can manually locate and remove the virus. This will solve your issue. Even XP might allow this by using the command prompt and commands like attrib -h -s to remove the system file attribs from the virus file upon which you can simply right click and delete that virus file.

I had your problem too but i solve it after ours of searching the internet. I tried everything but nothing worked! It's simple: download this http://www.apacer.com/en/support/d [...] .9.1.1.zip run it and it will format your USB even if it is write protected. Good luck!! Please notice me if it works because i would like to know!

Hi ricoshe,

my usb-stick is more clever than yours!!! :D

I have the same "write protection" problem but when I tried the SW you recommend it just says "...USB Flash Disk not found"

Does that mean my virus (or whatever it is) hides more clever than yours?

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter/Ricoshe,

I also get the USB flash Disk not found message, even though Windows recognises the memory stick when I put it in.
I've scanned with Malwarebytes and McAfee and not found any virus. Any other ideas please anyone?

Rob
