Seriously wanting to get this game, but am a bit concerned that my pc wont run it smoothly. I have DSL so lag shouldnt be a big deal. I have an asus A7V133 mobo 512 meg pc133 ram (pny) Athlon 1 ghz slightly OC'd ATI made R9600 128meg winxp pro 6850 3dmark2001se score.

The box requirements are obviously lower than my specs but you cant trust those things. Anyone have any real experiences with the game?

its a pretty demanding game. you may be able to play it in high settings at 640x480. d/l the demo first if you can. i think they have the multiplayer demo in fileplanet. its a fun game though.

Maybe somebody could share their experiences with the game, but so far the game doesn't look that good on a XP2400+ with a R9800P so I wouldn't expect it to be very demanding. It doesn't seem to have anything special.

Hey, I'm playing the game right now.
Here are my system specs:
Athlon 2400+ 512mb 266ram
Radeon 9500 pro (core/mem : 342/315)

It works at full detail settings at 800x600 fine. 1024x768 works ok... but if lots of stuff gets on the screen there is definite lag, so 800x600 is the most reliabe setting.

Just do what the other guy said and download the demo... or try to find the game on bittorrent. If it works good and you like it then definitely buy the game.

If it makes you feel any better i don't feel that the game is that good (other than the graphics on some levels). Enemies take like 100 hits to die and you just kind of fire your gun randomly too... But then again, other people seem ot love the game... TRY IT OUT!

It's not bad it does reduce the number of sharp edges, but i could still clearly tell on some, same with Splinter cell for some reason i'm not sure why.

I really don't think HALO is that special. I can run it at 1024x768 but I don't think it has anything special to it. It looks better than the Xbox version but that's not a big accomplishment.

If you have a DX8 card it will run almost as fast as a DX9 card but not be as pretty. A 2500/2.4ghz p4 with a GF4 4600 should run it fine. I run it on a 2.4ghz barton and a 9700p oc to 380/350 and it runs smooth enough for me at 1024x768 full detail. The best thing is it doesn't lag on my 64k isdn connection! It was funny the other day though when gamespy went down. Never seen so much of a fuss about a game....

If you want to play Halo single player you should be OK. The netcode for multiplayer downright SUCKS and even the fastest PC around can't make up for the crappy coding.

I would save $50 and buy another game. Overall it is just an extremely poor port and there is no excuse for such bad coding.

Well, I just got it and while it could be better, it is definatly playable.

With all settings on Max (which it doesn't default to, so get in there and push them up) on 1024x768 I played through the first level which was fine and then used FRAPS on the outdoor level and shot a few badies with fraps measuring for a bit...the results;

2003-10-16 20:16:57 - halo
Frames: 4161 - Time: 93625ms - Avg: 44.443 - Min: 22 - Max: 86

P4 2.8c, FX5900 Ultra 52.13 drivers, DDR400 Ram. No overclocking.

I'm going to put back to 800x600 and try knocking off some settings, but I have been relieved that despite rumors of 9fps somewhere it is fully playable on my config. Also, the results of the timedemo;

I run it 1024x768 on a 2700+ with a 9700np 300/300
No AA.. full settings, it runs like crap.. very slow.. too slow, too many jaggies
So 800x600 with 2x aa.. is a little bit better, but not much. I say buy Jedi Academy instead

'Jedi' isn't exactly the same game! If people want to play Halo they aren't looking for a light sabre ;)

The story seems to be very mixed. I'm now playing in 1024x768 and most of the time think it's pretty smooth. I got slightly better feelings results (I haven't retimed) after a reboot of my PC. Turning 2xAA and 2xAF on doesn't seem to make a performance hit but equally I can't see that it's having any effect at all.

So I'm done tweaking - now I can keep playing :)
