I've been trying to upgrade my MN-740 adapters to the
latest firmware version; however, using the MS-provided
firmware software, I cannot detect the devices over
wireless or directly connected to a PC--I've even gone
into Safe Mode with Networking to try to troubleshoot this
issue.

Occassionally, I can connect to the device, but I can
never get it to actually update. I believe one of the
adapters is bad, but I am wondering what conflicting
software is preventing my laptop and my PC from being able
to detect the devices.

I do use the Cisco VPN client, which installs the
Deterministic Networks miniport driver. I turned that off
on my PC to see if that would help the problem, but it
really did not. Does anyone know of applications that
cause conflicts with such upgrades.

You need to upgrade it through the Dashboard on an Xbox for best results,
Blaine.

When I first bought 2 of these adapters about a year ago
when they first were released I had the same issue trying
to upgrade the firmware on both of them It turned out to
be that the ATI Radeon drivers for my video card was
conflicting with Microsoft's upgrade tool. I took the
adapters to a friends that had the same video card and
still had the same issue.
I took the adapters to work and tried upgrading them on a
system with an ATI card there and had the same issues. I
didn't want to believe that a video card had anything to
do with it. When I finall tried to upgrade on a system
without an ATI card the upgrade worked like a charm...GO
FIGURE!!!
Hope this might help you. Try updating the firmware on a
different machine.
