Screen saver closing applications

Last response: in Windows XP

I am seeing some odd behavior from my screen saver (standard MS slide
show). When the screen saver is interrupted because of a key press or
mouse movement the application which next gets focus is closed. This is
happening pretty consistently. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Any
one know the cause or fix?

cheers,
/dkb

Does this action happen to all apps "which next get focus" or just certain
ones, like graphics apps? Try different ones and see if it is to all or not.
If just to graphics apps, it likely due to shared files/folders that when the
screensaver closes it also closes apps accordingly. Also try your screensaver
with an other saver besides your slide show and see if that changes anything.

It happens with Firefox (email), Word, and IE. So it does not seem to be
related to graphics applications. I will try a different screen saver
and see if that gives different results.

Two last things, this seems to be a recent happening, i.e., it just
started recently (and no new software has been installed). The only
other odd thing is that there is a MS update that won't install and I
don't know if there is a relationship or not. I have run virus scan and
spyware scan and the system is clean.

Turns out it happens with other screen savers (even non-graphic ones) as
well.

Any other ideas?
