You might be asking a little much, Clarentavious.

You can get a new one for about $250 on various online stores, including shipping...

Never mind. I've just seen you are fed up with it and want a standard 5900. So basically you want to trade a card thats good in gaming for a card thats good in gaming.

He thinks the drivers suck and the card is unstable. It MUST be the card too...it can't be any other of the 2000+ microcomponents in his computer...it's the card.

Yes, because apparently you can play some older games with the 9700 Pro chipset, and I believe the rest of the 9000 series - either that or I'm suffering from some other problem like not enough juice from my Antec 400 watt PSU. I can't play Wheel of Time at all. Also I have some minor visual artifacts in some games.

I didn't know you could find it a 9700 Pro for $250 in new condition. I paid $315 for mine on Techonweb Tyan offers hardware monitoring and overclocking, better than an ATI reference card...

It could be some other part in my computer, but I did not experience these problems with the 4200 I had.

Everyone at THG forums seems to love the 9700 Pro... except for me, whether you want to buy it is up to you - I don't think it is suited for me because of the compatibility issues; perhaps you won't experience them, or don't play some of the older games that I do...

It could be a bad card. If it is, you will be selling or trading someone a bad or dodgy card... The only games the 9700 won't play that I know are project igi 1 and final fantasy 7. But since those games are rather outdated now its not a big issue.

Heres a couple examples... and they're powercolor, so certainly the overclocking potential would be better with your card.

Not sure what kind of memory the powercolor 9700 PROS are using, tho. They might overclock OK:

My card isn't defective, because this is the second card I've gotten and it is showing the same problems as the first... I don't believe in such a coincidence that I've been unlucky enough to get 2 defective cards in a row.

If someone owns Deus Ex and a 9700 Pro, they should come forward and back my claim that it will not run correctly in Direct3D

Phial you do a good job of flaming, go you

9500pro running Deus Ex in Direct3D, 1024*768+max setting=no problem here.

So personally i suggest you poke around your software more before blame the fault on the hardware...

The last time I played deus ex on my 9700pro was almost a year ago just to try it out. Had some probs with default drivers, but a version of the catalysts fixed it if I remember correctly.

That response is not helping my problem. Are you willing to help me troubleshoot this issue if you are so firmly convinced the problem lies outside of my card?

Calm down aye. I've had one of those days (again) so my trouble shooting will have to wait 'till another day.

Very well....... I'm willing to wait until tomorrow or another day - in the mean time suggestions from other folk are welcome, and my card is still for sale or trade.

I've thought of every possibility from my BIOS settings to my drivers, and I personally believe the problem is the 9000 series chip design...... or I suppose it could be my power supply, but I don't intend on replacing it. I cut off one of the accessory 4 pin wires simply because my case is too messy, and wrapped electrical tape around the end. My 9700 Pro is connected to the same wire that my harddrive is and my cooling fans. Someone suggested I should attach it to it's own molex wire, if I did so I my CD drives would not be functional and I wouldn't be able to load any games.

If the 2 of you are telling me the truth, why don't you offer some suggestions as to what you think could be wrong with the rest of my system....

dude

i used to run Deus Ex on my radeon 7200 (first readeon ever, well, same chip) 64meg and Duron 1ghz with no problems at full settings

either you have a defective card, theres a hardware conflict (has nothing to do with individual component quality or performance keep in mind), or theres a software problem. because i cant sit in front of your monitor or talk to you its impossible to "troubleshoot". really unless you give alot more information like what motherboard driver version you have currently installed.. weather or not there were previous Detonator drivesr that were *COMPLETELY* removed etc etc etc

the 9700pro has been out for a long time. it has basically turned the video card market around. not many have done this besides the voodoo1/2 or GF2 DDR etc (theres otheres, like the GF1, first to have T&L in hardware... Voodoo5 for first with hardware AA but that was a flop), so yes, i DO think that you got unlucky twice in a row.

of course to get TWO defective cards in a row, especially if one is an rma of hte first is highly unlikely. thats why im thinking its a software issue, and do not even think for a second that it has anything to do with the 9700pro's performance/compatibilty/stability because those have all been proven to be stellar for a LONG time now
